Emma Stone and Chris Pine Spotted Filming Steamy Kiss Scene for ‘The Catch’

Emma Stone has built one of the most acclaimed résumés in Hollywood over the past few years, moving fluidly from awards-season darling in ‘Poor Things’ to earning fresh nominations for ‘Bugonia.’ After a stretch defined by dense, challenging material, she’s now stepping into decidedly lighter territory for her next project.

That shift comes in the form of Universal’s ‘The Catch,’ a project that’s been generating buzz since it was first announced earlier this year, largely thanks to its unusual pairing of leads. Despite both actors having spent years as fixtures of major studio releases, Stone and her co-star hadn’t previously shared the screen together until this particular film brought them together for the first time.

That pairing was on full display this week when Emma Stone and Chris Pine were spotted filming a steamy kiss scene for ‘The Catch’ on Friday night in Brooklyn, New York. For their time on set, Stone wore a brown sweater and black pants, while Pine had a black jacket draped over his shoulders with his right arm in a sling, a detail tied to his character rather than any real injury.

Earlier the same day, Stone had also been seen filming separate gardening scenes on the same Brooklyn set, receiving notes in between takes from her husband, Dave McCary, who is directing the film. That kind of hands-on creative partnership between the couple adds an extra layer of personal investment to a project already generating significant attention.

‘The Catch’ has been described as a blend of ‘Bull Durham’ and ‘Notting Hill,’ with Stone playing a character billed as the most hated woman in baseball. That premise gives the film a distinctly sports-adjacent romantic comedy angle, setting it apart from more conventional entries in the genre.

The supporting cast rounds out with Ashley Padilla playing Stone’s sister and comedian Druski playing her character’s bodyguard, alongside Tim Robbins and Sissy Spacek in additional roles confirmed earlier this year. Chris Fleming and Irina Shayk also joined the production in July, further expanding an already stacked ensemble surrounding the film’s two leads.

This latest round of filming builds on footage captured throughout the summer, including an earlier session in the same Brooklyn neighborhood back in August, when Stone shot scenes alongside Robbins and Padilla. Pine and Druski were also spotted filming in the area around that same time, suggesting the production has been steadily working through key scenes across multiple cast configurations since shooting began.

‘The Catch’ originated from a spec script written by Patrick Kang and Michael Levin before Jen Statsky, known for co-creating ‘Hacks,’ and Travis Helwig, a writer on ‘Adam Ruins Everything,’ delivered the most recent draft. That script ultimately drew Stone’s attention after she’d been weighing several other options for a fall project, with the film moving forward once Pine officially closed his deal to join her.

Shawn Levy and Dan Levine are producing through their banner 21 Laps, alongside Michael H. Weber, while Stone, McCary, and Ali Herting are producing through Stone’s own Fruit Tree production company. Principal photography began in July in New York City, with Universal setting the film’s theatrical release for May 21, 2027.

Given how much curiosity Stone and Pine’s on-screen pairing has already generated well before the film’s release, these Brooklyn set photos offer fans their first genuine glimpse of the chemistry between the two leads in character. With filming still ongoing and plenty of the story’s specifics still under wraps, anticipation for ‘The Catch’ appears to be building steadily as production continues.
