HBO Confirms ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Season 2 Release Window, and Dunk and Egg Fans Won’t Have Long to Wait

HBO’s expansion of the Westeros universe has been one of the more disciplined rollouts in prestige television, with the network carefully spacing out ‘House of the Dragon’ and its newer companion series to keep Game of Thrones content flowing without oversaturating the schedule. That balancing act has made every scheduling update for the franchise’s newest entry, ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,’ worth watching closely.

The Dunk and Egg prequel premiered on January 18 and quickly became one of HBO’s stronger new offerings, earning enough confidence from the network that a second season was greenlit before the first had even aired. Production on that follow-up season has not been entirely smooth, though, with historic flooding in Gran Canaria, Spain forcing the crew to relocate mid-shoot and pushing the timeline later than originally planned.

Despite that setback, HBO chairman and CEO Casey Bloys has now confirmed, per Deadline, that ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ season 2 will release in the first half of 2027. The update puts to rest months of uncertainty over whether the weather-related delays would knock the show off its intended annual release rhythm.

That target lines up with what showrunner Ira Parker had already signaled earlier this year, when he told The Hollywood Reporter that the season is “expected to debut in the first half of 2027, yeah, absolutely.” Parker’s comments came even as production dealt with what he described as a once-in-a-hundred-year storm hitting the location chosen specifically for its drought-like conditions, a detail that underscores just how disruptive the delay actually was on the ground.

Filming reached a major milestone in early August when Dexter Sol Ansell, who plays Egg, announced he had wrapped his portion of production. Peter Claffey, who stars as Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall, is expected to follow shortly after, clearing the way for the series to move fully into post-production.

Season 2 will adapt ‘The Sworn Sword,’ the second novella in George R.R. Martin’s ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’ series, picking up roughly a year and a half after the events of the first season. The story follows the pair into the Reach, where they enter the service of a minor landed knight and find themselves caught in a land dispute that slowly reveals ties to the lingering fallout of the Blackfyre Rebellion.

The confirmed release window also keeps HBO’s broader Westeros strategy intact, with ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ and ‘House of the Dragon’ designed to alternate on an annual basis. With ‘House of the Dragon’ season 4 already set as its final season and slated for 2028, a first-half 2027 premiere for Dunk and Egg’s next chapter keeps that yearly cadence on track without any gaps for fans of the franchise.

For a show that overcame flooding, location changes and a compressed production window, landing back on its original release target is a solid win for HBO’s ambitious plan to keep a steady stream of Westeros content flowing each year.
