New Look at ‘9-1-1: Nashville’ Reveals Ryan Phillippe Engulfed by Snakes Ahead of Season 2

‘9-1-1: Nashville‘ wrapped up its debut season with genuine tension left hanging in the air, closing out a finale built around a dramatic clash between Blythe and Dixie that escalated into full physical confrontation. That cliffhanger left plenty of threads dangling heading into the spinoff’s sophomore run, and the show has spent the past few weeks steadily building anticipation for its return.

Much of that anticipation has centered on a major new addition to the cast. Ryan Phillippe is joining ‘ureau1-1: Nashville’ as a series regular for Season 2, playing Detective Rogue, a homicide investigator who relocates from New York City and quickly finds himself pulled into the biggest case of his career after arriving in Music City.

That anticipation just got a striking new visual boost. A new key art poster for Season 2 shows Phillippe’s face split down the middle, half consumed by a tangle of writhing snakes coiling around his neck and head, with the ominous tagline “This is only the beginning” confirming the show’s October 15 premiere date on ABC.

That unsettling imagery ties directly into the season’s central antagonist storyline. According to showrunner Rashad Raisani, this season introduces a villain deliberately recreating the plagues of the Bible to punish Nashville, giving the show a genuinely massive, disaster-of-the-week hook similar to the large-scale set pieces that have defined the broader ‘9-1-1’ franchise.

Raisani elaborated on Phillippe’s character and his introduction to the show, explaining that Rogue comes to Nashville specifically to slow down after witnessing “a lot of bad stuff” during his time working in New York, only to immediately find himself pulled into “the case of his life,” in comments shared with TV Insider.

That biblical-plague concept fits neatly into the franchise’s established pattern of kicking off new seasons with massive, attention-grabbing disasters, recalling moments like the original series’ infamous “beenado” storyline that once forced Angela Bassett’s Athena to land a plane mid-swarm. Recent promotional material has also teased a basement flooding with blood and other plague-inspired disasters awaiting the Station 113 crew this season.

Beyond the season’s central mystery, Raisani has also teased a complicated dynamic forming between Rogue and Don’s son Ryan, played by Michael Provost, describing an unexpected “father-son triangle” developing between the two characters and Don himself as the season progresses.

Chris O’Donnell returns as Captain Don Hart, alongside Jessica Capshaw as Blythe Hart, Kimberly Williams-Paisley as dispatcher Cammie Raleigh, and LeAnn Rimes as Dixie Bennings. Michael Provost, Juani Feliz, Hailey Kilgore, and Hunter McVey also return in their established roles, rounding out the Station 113 ensemble heading into the new season.

Notably, ‘9-1-1: Nashville’ managed to avoid the franchise’s infamous casting curse that’s affected both the flagship series and ‘9-1-1: Lone Star,’ each of which lost a major series regular following their first seasons. Every principal cast member from Season 1 is confirmed to be returning for Season 2, giving the show a rare sense of continuity within the broader franchise.

‘9-1-1: Nashville’ Season 2 premieres Thursday, October 15, at 9/8c on ABC, airing right after the Season 10 premiere of the flagship ‘9-1-1’ series and ahead of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’s’ Season 23 debut. Episodes will also stream the following day on Hulu for subscribers who prefer to catch up later.
