IMDb and IMDbPro presented Navarrette with the “Breakout” STARmeter Award at the Getty Images Portrait Studio during the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival, recognizing her as one of the year’s biggest fan favorites based on the IMDbPro STARmeter rankings chart, which tracks page views from more than 250 million monthly visitors to the site worldwide.

The numbers behind ‘Obsession’ help explain why Navarrette’s star has risen so fast. Made on a reported budget of just $750,000, the film has grossed over $512 million at the worldwide box office, making it the fifth-highest-grossing horror movie of all time unadjusted for inflation, and giving it one of the most staggering budget-to-box-office ratios in recent memory.
Navarrette’s IMDbPro STARmeter rankings have climbed steadily since ‘Obsession’ opened theatrically on May 15, with fans continually driving traffic to her page in the months since. She currently sits at No. 10 on the overall STARmeter chart and is trending toward being named one of IMDb’s top breakout stars of the year when the platform’s annual “Best Of” campaign rolls out in December.
The recognition puts her in the company of previous STARmeter Award recipients like Sydney Sweeney and Brie Larson, both of whom picked up similar honors earlier in their own rapid ascents. It’s the kind of early industry signal that has historically lined up with actors who go on to have genuine breakthrough moments in the years that follow.
Navarrette’s career is already backing that trend up. She’s been cast as Rogue in Marvel’s upcoming X-Men film, landed the lead role in Apple Original Films’ sci-fi thriller ‘The Waffle House Index,’ and was recently announced as the host of ‘Saturday Night Live’s’ Halloween episode airing on October 31.
This year’s festival wasn’t just about awards, either. Navarrette and Barker returned to Toronto for what amounted to a one-year victory lap, marking just over a year since ‘Obsession’ first premiered at the festival’s 50th edition, with a special anniversary screening in front of a sold-out crowd.
Barker didn’t hide how different the experience felt this time around. Speaking ahead of the screening, he told Gold Derby that even the small details of the trip felt transformed, saying the plane ride over was different and that he was looking at the same buildings but wasn’t staying in the same hotel as the year before.
Navarrette echoed that sense of how far things have come, later adding that the two of them had shared a room at TIFF the first time around, a detail that underscores just how modest ‘Obsession’s’ beginnings were before it exploded into a genuine box office phenomenon. Going from splitting hotel rooms to picking up an IMDb STARmeter Award in the span of a single year is about as clean a symbol of a breakout as Hollywood gets.
With Rogue, ‘The Waffle House Index,’ and an ‘SNL’ hosting gig all still ahead of her, Navarrette’s 2026 breakout looks less like a peak and more like a launchpad. The real test now will be whether she can carry that STARmeter momentum into the kind of long-term career longevity that past honorees like Sweeney and Larson have managed to build.
