‘Verity’ Star Dakota Johnson Fronts Vogue’s Milan Special Issue Ahead of Vogue World 2026
Dakota Johnson has spent years cultivating one of the most recognizable presences in high fashion, consistently landing at the center of Vogue’s biggest cultural moments. From her first American Vogue cover more than a decade ago to her front-row appearances at last year’s Vogue World: Hollywood, she’s become a fixture whenever the publication stages one of its major global events.
That relationship has continued to deepen as Vogue prepares for its next big international showcase. For its fifth installment, Vogue World is making its first voyage outside the United States, heading to Milan for a runway spectacle set to take over the historic Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II on Tuesday, September 22, the opening day of Milan Fashion Week.
Ahead of that event, Dakota Johnson has landed the cover of Vogue’s special Milan issue, photographed by Larissa Hofmann for the “Vogue World Special Issue.” The cover, teased with the line “See You in Milano!,” features Johnson reclining in a soft yellow ensemble, with the accompanying interview quote declaring, “Rules are really tough for me.”
In the years since “The Social Network” and the “Fifty Shades of Grey” trilogy made Dakota Johnson a star, she’s developed a certain reputation. That framing fits neatly into the persona Johnson has cultivated across years of candid press appearances, one built around unapologetic self-assurance and a willingness to push back against conventional expectations. Her cover comes as Vogue ramps up promotion for what’s shaping up to be one of the most ambitious editions of the event yet.

Vogue World: Milano marks the franchise’s first stop outside American soil since its 2022 debut, following previous editions held in New York, London, Paris, and Hollywood. The Milan showcase will unfold through a series of thematic acts centered on Italian craftsmanship and innovation, blending runway spectacle with cultural celebration.
Francesca Ragazzi, head of editorial content for Vogue Italia, framed the significance of bringing the event to Milan for the first time, describing it as a rare opportunity to celebrate Italy’s storied “Made in Italy” legacy on a global stage. The creative team behind the event includes Ragazzi alongside Vogue global editorial director Anna Wintour, creative studio lead Juan Costa Paz, Lady Amanda Harlech, and fashion scholar Judith Clark, with Marco Balich serving as executive producer.

Beyond its runway spectacle, the event carries a charitable component as well, with proceeds directed toward supporting the Quarto Oggiaro Library in northwestern Milan. That combination of high fashion and civic giving has become something of a hallmark for the Vogue World franchise since its inception, and organizers appear intent on carrying that same spirit into its first international edition.
Johnson’s growing association with Vogue World isn’t new. She previously turned heads at last October’s Vogue World: Hollywood, where she sat front row in a semi-sheer Valentino gown from designer Alessandro Michele’s Spring 2026 collection, marking her first Valentino red carpet moment in years and kicking off a new ambassadorship with the brand.
That kind of consistent presence at Vogue’s marquee events has helped cement Johnson’s status as one of the publication’s most reliable style ambassadors, making her selection as the face of this historic Milan expansion feel like a natural extension of that ongoing relationship. Her fashion choices at these events have repeatedly generated headlines of their own, adding an extra layer of anticipation for how she’ll show up once the Milan runway show actually begins.
With the livestream for Vogue World: Milano set to air on September 22 and major sponsors including Meta Glasses, eBay, and FedEx already attached to the production, the event is positioned as a genuinely global moment for the publication. Johnson’s cover appearance offers an early glimpse of the star power Vogue is banking on to make its first international expansion a resounding success.
