‘Perfect Liars’ First Teaser Drops, and This Wattpad Sensation Is Coming for Your Dark Academia Obsession

Wattpad has quietly become one of the most reliable pipelines for the next big streaming hit, turning fan-favorite serialized fiction into full-blown film and television adaptations. The platform’s ability to build massive, devoted fanbases long before a single frame of footage exists has made its most popular stories increasingly attractive to major studios looking for built-in audiences. The latest example of that pipeline in action is finally getting its first real look.

Prime Video has released the debut teaser trailer for ‘Perfect Liars,’ its upcoming Spanish original film based on author Alex Mírez’s Wattpad novel of the same name. The story has already racked up more than 140 million reads on the platform, making it one of the site’s genuine breakout literary phenomena heading into its screen adaptation.

The film is set to premiere exclusively on Prime Video on November 20, releasing simultaneously in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide as part of standard Prime membership access. Behind the camera is director Jesús Colmenar, best known for his work on ‘Money Heist,’ who also wrote the screenplay alongside co-writer Ángela Armero, known for ‘If I Were a Rich Man.’

‘Perfect Liars’ centers on Jude Derry, played by Irene Balmes, who arrives at the exclusive university of Tagus with a hidden agenda: infiltrating the powerful Cash brothers’ inner circle to uncover the truth behind her own brother’s death. Beneath the school’s polished, privileged surface lies a world defined by secrets, betrayal, and simmering revenge, a setup that leans firmly into the dark academia aesthetic that has become increasingly popular across streaming platforms.

The Cash brothers themselves form the heart of the story’s power dynamic. Gleb Abrosimov plays Aegan, the charismatic and calculating firstborn; Pau Simon plays Adrik, the enigmatic middle brother; and Pablo Scapigliati plays Alex, the rebellious youngest sibling. Together, the trio commands Tagus with a magnetism that, according to the film’s own marketing, no one seems able to resist. Asier Etxeandia rounds out the family as their father, Adrien Cash, with Irene Ferreiro also joining the cast as a character named Artie.

The decision to adapt ‘Perfect Liars’ fits neatly into a broader trend of streaming services mining Wattpad’s catalog for proven hits with passionate, ready-made fanbases. With over 140 million reads already behind it, the source novel arrives with a level of built-in anticipation that few original screen properties can match, and Prime Video appears to be leaning fully into that existing devotion with a global day-and-date release strategy.

Timing-wise, ‘Perfect Liars’ is entering a fairly crowded release window. The film shares its November 20 premiere date with roughly 10 other titles opening that same day, including ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping,’ putting it in direct competition for audience attention right out of the gate. Still, a built-in fanbase of that size gives the film a meaningful head start over most of its competition.

For fans who have followed Jude Derry’s story since its Wattpad days, the newly released teaser offers the first real glimpse of Tagus brought to life on screen, hinting at the moody, secret-laden atmosphere that made the novel such a runaway success in the first place.
