Anne Hathaway (43) Closes Her Biggest Press Tour Yet in a Show-Stopping Black Gown at the ‘Verity’ Premiere

Few stars have had a year like Anne Hathaway’s, and her ‘Verity‘ premiere look is the perfect capstone. The premiere marked the 5th and final press tour of 2026 for the actress, following ‘Mother Mary’, ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’, ‘The Odyssey’ and ‘The End of Oak Street’.

She has traveled the globe for those campaigns while expecting her 3rd child with husband Adam Shulman. Fashion has been a running storyline throughout, with Hathaway refusing to treat maternity dressing as one fixed silhouette.

For ‘The Odyssey’, she leaned into Grecian-inspired gowns, and fluid shapes like a Prada look in New York and a blue chiffon Dior gown in London. Earlier on the ‘Verity’ tour, she wore a figure-hugging Cult Gaia dress and a vibrant Carolina Herrera look. For the ‘End of Oak Street’ premiere in August, she paired a sculptural blue halter top and dramatic train from Atelier Prabal Gurung with low-rise jeans.

That brings us to the New York premiere on September 29 at AMC Lincoln Square 13, which was her first official red carpet appearance for ‘Verity’. Hathaway arrived in a strapless black custom Atelier Prabal Gurung gown with a sweetheart neckline, softly hugging her baby bump. In the photos from the night, she cradles the bump as a long train sweeps behind her.

The fitted bodice flared into a voluminous pleated tulle skirt covered in embroidered sequins. Shredded floral chiffon and crystal-bead embroidery added shimmering texture across the top, and sheer detailing rounded out a look that was anything but a conventional maternity gown.

Since ‘Verity’ is a psychological thriller, black could hardly have been more apt, though the gown avoided feeling predictable. Fashion writers noted that the sculpted silhouette marked a departure from the flowing shapes she has favored during her pregnancy.

Her styling kept the focus on the dress. Hathaway wore her hair in a high ponytail, and Bvlgari jewels completed the look, with Erin Walsh as her stylist. One fashion outlet called it one of her top 2 looks of the year.

The color choice also created a striking pairing with co-star Dakota Johnson, who arrived in a custom ivory Calvin Klein Collection two-piece covered in crystal fringe. Hathaway’s black made Johnson’s fringe look even brighter in photos.

Hartnett, Ismael Cruz Córdova, director Michael Showalter, screenwriter Nick Antosca and author Colleen Hoover also attended. Hathaway had skipped the London premiere earlier in the tour, so the New York carpet was the first big reunion of the leads.

Pregnancy has changed her promotional plans in other ways. In the film, Hathaway plays bestselling author Verity Crawford and appears in character on the online interview series ‘Hot Ones’, and she has explained that she and the production ate the first 3 wings for real before switching to dummy wings.

She had hoped to do the real ‘Hot Ones’ challenge for press, but her doctor advised against it because the spicy food could trigger early labor. She said on the ‘Talk of the Townsends’ podcast that she hopes to take on the gauntlet at some point, possibly next year.

The film opens in US theaters on October 2, and Hathaway has said she plans to take a break from work once it lands. She has joked that she will disappear quickly after the release.

She is expected to return to filming in March 2027 for ‘Days of Thunder 2’ alongside Tom Cruise. Before then, one more detail from the premiere made the rounds online, with a clip showing Hathaway helping keep the group photo running smoothly.
