Marvel Studios has big plans for the final stretch of the Multiverse Saga. The studio is attempting something like a ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy approach with its two new Avengers movies, ‘Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’, releasing them exactly a year apart. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set for December 18, 2026, with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ following on December 17, 2027.

That date has already moved more than once. ‘Secret Wars’ was first announced for May 1, 2026, then shifted to May 7, 2027, before landing on its current December slot in 2025. Deadline reported that the changes came because both films grew in scope, and the Russo brothers are directing both.

Now a new report is stirring the pot again. On October 1, the X account Cosmic Marvel claimed that ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ will reportedly be filming from January through late April or May. The post adds that, despite the delays, Marvel still insists on keeping the December 17, 2027 release date, crediting the insiders ApocHorseman and DanielRPK.

The timeline has been shifting for weeks. DanielRPK first said filming would be delayed until November, and Apocalyptic Horseman then said it may be January instead. DanielRPK later said Apocalyptic Horseman was right and that filming would start in January 2027. Before that, production had been expected to begin in August and later in early October, according to different reports.

The math is what has fans nervous. If cameras wrap in late April or early May, post-production would have just 7 to 8 months to deliver a film of this size by December 2027. By comparison, ‘Doomsday’ began filming in the spring of 2025 and wrapped in September 2025, and its post-production then ran over a year, for a roughly 20-month process in total.

Murphy’s Multiverse noted that 13 months would typically be enough for most films, but that multiple rounds of additional photography on ‘Doomsday’ have raised concerns for its direct follow-up. The outlet adds that Marvel Studios has given no indication that it plans to move the release date of ‘Secret Wars’. Marvel’s own movie page still lists December 17, 2027.

‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ Filming Reportedly Slips to November, Adding Fresh Doubt to Marvel’s Multiverse Finale

There is a counterargument. Another outlet noted that filming ‘Doomsday’ first might make things easier on the sequel, since the Russos, the cast and the crew would be coming off that set with their momentum fresh. Reports earlier surfaced that Marvel shot some ‘Secret Wars’ scenes during the ‘Doomsday’ reshoots.

For their part, the Russo brothers said earlier this year that they were still working on ‘Doomsday’ and would be until probably November, while being in what they called pre-production on ‘Secret Wars’. That suggests a team juggling two enormous projects at once, a strain that has already slowed the schedule.

The cast is shaping up as star-studded. Robert Downey Jr. is set to play Doctor Doom, and Noah Jupe has been reported to have a key role. Sadie Sink is reportedly reprising her ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ role, and Benedict Cumberbatch confirmed he would return as Doctor Strange.

As always, the filming window comes from insiders rather than an official Marvel announcement, so treat the details with caution. Still, if the reports are accurate, the studio is betting that a fast turnaround can deliver the Multiverse Saga finale on time.

What do you think about the reported schedule?
