The wait is nearly over for fans of the franchise. Paramount+ will release ‘Avatar: Seven Havens‘ globally on Friday, October 9, and the date was announced during a panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego. Creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko used the same panel to discuss the film ‘Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender’.

That makes this new chapter arrive much faster than most people predicted. The first half of the year was turbulent for fans, and a firm date for the sequel series came as a real surprise. Here is everything you need to know before ‘Avatar Seven Havens’ lands.

The Release Date and How It Got Here

The October slot was not always meant for this series. The date was first planned for ‘Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender’, before that film’s schedule changed because of an online leak. ‘Seven Havens’ was then slotted into the film’s old release date of October 9.

The leak cast a long shadow over the franchise this year. The same hackers who leaked the film later claimed to have access to the series, which had not yet received an official release date from Paramount. Around the same time, Paramount also scrapped plans for a large roleplaying game set in the Avatar world.

The film has since come and gone. ‘Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender’ premiered on Paramount+ on Saturday, July 25. That leaves the new series to carry the franchise into the fall.

Where to Watch and the Episode Schedule

The place to watch is Paramount+, where the series premieres on October 9. Viewers in some regions may be out of luck, since Paramount+ does not officially operate in Ukraine and no alternative release has been announced there.

Fans hoping for a full weekend binge should adjust their plans. The series will arrive weekly in chunks of three episodes, starting with three episodes on Friday, October 9, followed by episodes 4 through 6 on October 16 and episodes 7 through 9 on October 23. Episodes 10 through 13 close out the first book on October 30.

The rollout was a moving target for a while. There were conflicting reports about how episodes would be released, and an early claim that all 26 would drop at once appeared to be wrong. Variety also clarified that the initial information about a simultaneous release of every episode was erroneous.

The show is a 2D animated series made up of 26 half hour episodes split into two books. One benefit of the weekly rollout is that it keeps the fandom talking for most of October and speculating about Book Two.

A Preview of the Story and Tone

The official pitch is a bleak one. The logline follows a young Earthbender who learns she is the new Avatar after Korra, in a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm where the title marks her as humanity’s destroyer rather than its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long lost twin must uncover their origins and save the Seven Havens before the last strongholds collapse.

The setting pushes the franchise far into its own future. The story takes place 225 years after the end of ‘The Legend of Korra’ and leans into a more distinctly high fantasy look than earlier entries. That distance gives the creators room to build something new.

The first trailer fills in a few more shades. It shows a world wrecked by an apocalyptic calamity that seems to have been blamed on Korra, which leaves the surviving population hating the Avatar. The tone looks fairly dark, yet the main character is a kid again, much like Aang, which makes for a strange and intriguing contrast.

Cast and Creative Team Behind ‘Seven Havens’

The voice cast is led by two newcomers to the franchise. Saheli Khan stars as Pavi, with Aishu Devan as her twin Nisha. The cast also includes Akshay Khanna, Major Curda, Sakina Jaffrey, Darren Barnet, Dianne Doan and Dee Bradley Baker.

Behind the scenes, the original architects are back. DiMartino and Konietzko serve as co-creators and executive producers, alongside Ethan Spaulding and Sehaj Sethi. Nickelodeon and Avatar Studios are producing the series.

That pedigree matters given where the franchise started. The original ‘Avatar The Last Airbender’ debuted in 2005 and became one of the most acclaimed animated series ever, followed by ‘The Legend of Korra’ in 2012. With Korra apparently taking the blame for a shattered world, do you think Pavi can ever win back humanity’s trust in the Avatar, or is it too late for the Seven Havens to forgive?
