‘Avatar: Seven Havens’ Is Renewed Before Its First Book Even Ends, and a New ‘Avatar’ Series Is Already on the Way
Few animated franchises inspire the kind of loyalty that ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender‘ does. Its world of benders, spirits and sprawling adventures has stayed in the cultural conversation for years, and new stories carry a lot of expectations. That is why the launch of ‘Avatar: Seven Havens’ has been watched so closely by longtime fans.
The series arrived this week as the next chapter of the franchise, bringing a new Avatar to a world already shaped by ‘The Legend of Korra’. Now, within hours of its debut, the show’s future has been settled in a big way.
Paramount+ has renewed ‘Avatar: Seven Havens’ for two more seasons, bringing the show to Seasons 3 and 4, which the creators refer to as Books 3 and 4. The announcement came the same day the first three episodes of Season 1 became available on Paramount+. Season 2 does not yet have a premiere date.
Co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko announced the renewal at New York Comic Con. Details on the later books will come at a future date. The decision gives the series a long runway before it has even finished its first run.
The same panel also revealed a brand-new series, ‘Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos’, which is described as the next installment in the franchise. It follows a defiant teenage Avatar who learns the four elements while traveling, dodging his angry teacher, pirates and spirits. Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon Animation Studio are producing it, with Konietzko serving as showrunner.
Panel attendees got a first look at Kuruk and his pet, Nikik. The story is set generations before Aang, which opens the door to a very different era of the world. No premiere date has been announced.
‘Avatar: Seven Havens’ is an original 2D-animated series from Nickelodeon and Avatar Studios. It follows Pavi, a young Earthbender who learns she is the new Avatar after Korra, in a world devastated by a cataclysm. Instead of being seen as a savior, she is viewed as a threat to humanity and hunted by human and spirit enemies.
Pavi and her long-lost twin sister, Nisha, must uncover their origins and save the Seven Havens, the last strongholds of civilization, before they collapse. The setting takes place after ‘The Legend of Korra’, and portals now connect the human and spirit worlds. Korra has also lost her connection to past Avatars.

Saheli Khan voices Pavi and Aishu Devan voices Nisha. The cast also includes Akshay Khanna as Karthik, Major Curda as Jae, Sakina Jaffrey as Agam, Darren Barnet as Daemin and Dianne Doan as Zi. Dee Bradley Baker voices the companion characters Geet and Ruhi.
DiMartino and Konietzko are co-creators and executive producers. Ethan Spaulding, who was an animation director on ‘The Last Airbender’, is an executive producer and writer, and Sehaj Sethi is a co-executive producer. Janet Varney, the original voice of Korra, moderated the New York Comic Con panel.

The series consists of 26 half-hour episodes split into two books of 13 episodes each. Book 1 is arriving in weekly batches. Episodes 1 to 3 premiered on Oct. 9, episodes 4 to 6 arrive on Oct. 16, episodes 7 to 9 arrive on Oct. 23, and the final four episodes arrive on Oct. 30.
A companion podcast, ‘Braving the Elements’, will release two episodes weekly alongside the show. The panel also revealed colorways for ‘Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game’ based on ‘Seven Havens’ characters, along with a temple stage. Those extras show how much the studio is investing in the new era.
Early critical reaction has been warm. The Hollywood Reporter suggested it feels good to be back in this world, and TheWrap described the first six episodes as engrossing, rich and entertaining. That kind of response likely helped give Paramount+ the confidence to commit to more books so quickly.
For fans, the combination of a renewal and a new Avatar spinoff is a strong sign that the franchise is far from finished. With multiple series in development, the world of benders is expanding in several directions at once.
