Hunter Schafer Goes Full Cyberpunk Glam at NYCC as Prime Video’s ‘Blade Runner’ Sequel Series Drops a New Trailer
Sci-fi conventions are a natural home for bold fashion, and Hunter Schafer’s New York Comic Con look fit the mood perfectly. Between the neon lighting, the long blonde hair and the moody shadows, her latest photo reads like a frame from a cyberpunk film.
That was no accident of timing. Schafer was in New York to promote one of the most anticipated genre series of the season, and the setting was as futuristic as the show itself.
In the photo, Schafer is bathed in deep blue light with her long blonde hair falling loose over one shoulder. She wears a patterned bandeau-style top with a dark jacket draped around her and flowing dark bottoms. Behind her, a window frames a glimpse of red pillars and a hanging lantern on a busy street.
The saturated blue tones give the image the feel of a noir sci-fi still, which suits the world she is helping to promote. It is a striking contrast with the warm, lantern-lit street scene visible outside.

Schafer was there for Prime Video’s ‘Blade Runner 2099‘ panel on Saturday, October 10. She took the stage alongside Michelle Yeoh, Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben and Matthew Needham, plus showrunner Silka Luisa and executive producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.

Prime Video unveiled a new trailer and key art for the eight-episode limited series, and attendees also saw four never-before-seen clips. The new poster carries the tagline “Welcome to a future we no longer control”, a nod to a Los Angeles now dominated by replicants rather than humans.
The cast and creatives also spoke with reverence about the franchise’s earlier chapters, Ridley Scott’s ‘Blade Runner’ and Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Blade Runner 2049’. Fans will be able to watch all eight episodes when the series premieres on Prime Video on November 25.
The series is set 50 years after the events of ‘Blade Runner 2049’, in a Los Angeles that has been reborn, just not by humanity. Schafer plays Cora, a human fugitive in a final bid to stop running, who takes on one last identity as a Blade Runner.
She is forced to partner with Olwen, played by Yeoh, a replicant days from dying. Together they hunt a runaway who is hiding a truth that could collapse their fragile city.
The new trailer digs deeper into the conspiracy at the heart of the show and the tension between the two leads. It also hints that a war occurred sometime after 2049, with replicants now the dominant force and humans a minority.

Yeoh has been enthusiastic about the project and about Schafer in particular. Speaking at a press conference at the Busan International Film Festival ahead of New York Comic Con, she called the experience “an amazing journey”, Variety reported. She also said it was a great joy to work with such a talented co-star.
That chemistry is central to the show. The pairing of a dying replicant and a fugitive posing as a Blade Runner puts the two leads in nearly every scene.
The show has been a long time coming. The title was revealed in February 2022, and the series was being developed for Amazon Prime Video at the time.
Prime Video first showed the series at San Diego Comic-Con in July, where a Hall H panel in front of more than 6,500 fans debuted a teaser trailer and the premiere date. Ridley Scott is an executive producer, and Jonathan van Tulleken, known for ‘Shōgun’, directed the first two episodes. Luisa, the showrunner, previously created the Apple TV+ series ‘Shining Girls’.
Dimitri Abold and Lewis Gribben join Schafer and Yeoh as series regulars, with a deep bench of recurring guest stars including Sheila Atim, Tom Burke and Johnny Harris.
With the premiere about six weeks away, the marketing push is clearly ramping up. After a teaser in July and a deeper trailer at New York Comic Con, fans can expect more footage in the lead-up to November 25.
Schafer’s blue-lit photo captures the tone of that campaign: stylish, moody and a little mysterious. For a franchise built on neon-soaked visuals, it’s a fitting way to promote the next chapter.
