‘FBI’ Season 2 Episode 9 Recap & Ending Explained: Jubal Catches Isobel Mid-Secret and OA’s Undercover Mission Is No Longer Safe
Every long-running procedural eventually has to decide how much of its personal drama it can carry alongside the case of the week. Over recent seasons, ‘FBI‘ has leaned heavily on Special Agent OA Zidan’s unsanctioned undercover work. It is a storyline that fans have debated almost as hotly as any murder the team has solved.
Season 9 opened with OA deep undercover on Anna Vorpe’s team, working on the opposite side of Maggie in a mission tied to a nuclear project. The premiere ended with a tragedy that left OA torn, and with Maggie adjusting to a new partner in Isaiah Green. That set the table for what came next.
In the second episode, “Omissions,” which aired on CBS on October 12, the team chased a twisted murder case while the OA thread stayed mostly in the background. The final moments changed that: Jubal followed Isobel to a secret meeting with OA and demanded answers.
The case began with the shooting of undercover officer Clint Mathias near his daughter’s school. Clint’s undercover work was about to end, and he took a risk by meeting his 12-year-old daughter, Ariel, who lived with her grandmother. He gave her a teddy bear and received a bracelet in return.
The first lead came from Burns, the target of Clint’s operation, who pointed the team toward Clint’s former partner, Hugo Reyna, with photos suggesting the 2 had a major fight. NYPD Lt. Marcus Warren resisted the idea that one of his own could be dirty, which complicated Jubal’s work. Reyna had a poker-game alibi, though, so the team kept digging.
The dispute turned out to stem from heroin supplier Cobi Harkes. Clint suspected that Reyna had fabricated the anonymous tip that led to Cobi’s wrongful arrest, which made Cobi a suspect too. The team cleared him when they learned Clint had been about to testify on his behalf.

The proof came from the teddy bear. Clint had hidden a microSD card inside it containing photos of Fernando Balboa buying a burner phone. Balboa belonged to the Latin Kings, rivals of Cobi’s gang, which suggested he sent the tip, and the team found the murder weapon in his house.
The final twist came from Balboa’s lawyer, Tobias Harkes, who is also Cobi’s brother. He had been working with Balboa, offering peace to the Latin Kings while trying to keep his brother locked up for good. When Clint’s testimony threatened that plan, Tobias arranged the hit and Balboa pulled the trigger. Both men were taken into custody.
TV Fanatic’s review praised the episode as a real mystery that kept viewers guessing, with the critic admitting never suspecting the brother’s betrayal. The review also noted that the OA material bookended the story rather than taking it over.
OA’s story returned through a device he needed for an investigation. Isobel promised to arrange it, but Jubal noticed Ian Liam handing it to her in plain sight. Because Jubal is a top agent with a close connection to Isobel, he sensed she was hiding something.
That led to the cliffhanger. Jubal followed Isobel to her meeting with OA and demanded answers, so a third agent is about to join a secret that previously only Maggie and Isobel knew. It raises the stakes for everyone involved, because OA’s mission was never officially sanctioned.
TV Fanatic’s critic called Isobel’s belief that she could keep it from Jubal silly, and said the confrontation made for a better cliffhanger than another excuse for why OA can’t come back. The preview at the end of the hour suggested Jubal will pull the team into a big and risky effort to end OA’s undercover operation for good.
The next episode, “White Rock,” airs October 19. According to the official summary, the team pulls out all the stops to move against Anna Vorpe and her seemingly impervious Strike Team, while OA struggles with what he has to become to keep his identity hidden.
With Jubal now in the know, the question is whether he will help OA or force the issue. Either way, the secrecy that has defined the season is unlikely to last much longer.
What should Jubal do next?
