Few Marvel storylines have had fans guessing for as long as the fate of the Maximoff twins. After ‘WandaVision’ introduced the boys and ‘Agatha All Along’ reunited one of them with a new body, the question has been when the brothers would finally share a scene. With ‘VisionQuest‘ now streaming, that question has a very satisfying answer.

The series premiered on Disney+ on Oct. 14 with its first 2 episodes, and it wraps up the trilogy that began with ‘WandaVision’ in 2021 and continued with ‘Agatha All Along’ in 2024. Terry Matalas serves as showrunner, with Paul Bettany returning as Vision, James Spader as Ultron, T’Nia Miller as Jocasta and Todd Stashwick as the mercenary Paladin. It is an eight-episode run, and each installment has been the subject of intense speculation.

Now the cast has put one rumor to rest. Ruaridh Mollica, who plays an older Tommy Maximoff, confirmed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that Joe Locke will return as Billy Maximoff in ‘VisionQuest.’ Locke will appear in later episodes, and Mollica said filming with him was an amazing experience.

The twins were born in ‘WandaVision’ when Wanda created her family inside the Hex in Westview. After Wanda collapsed the Hex, Billy’s soul jolted into the body of William Kaplan, a teenager who had died in a car accident. In ‘Agatha All Along,’ Billy went on to build a coven and walk the Witches’ Road in search of his lost brother.

By the end of that series, Billy placed Tommy’s soul into the body of Thomas Shepherd, a teenager who had drowned. When ‘VisionQuest’ begins, Tommy is an 18-year-old orphan in London who is newly out of the foster care system. He survives by pickpocketing and eventually crosses paths with White Vision, who is struggling to understand who he is.

Speculation had been building for days. Locke attended the UK premiere of ‘VisionQuest’ at the BFI London Film Festival on Oct. 12, a surprise that had fans buzzing about whether Billy would appear. A recent Marvel trailer also seemed to confirm his return, and viewers were quick to notice.

Locke and Mollica have a fun history. They co-starred as a couple in the West End play ‘Clarkston,’ and Mollica said they filmed their Marvel scenes before starring together on stage. Locke even joked on TikTok about discovering that the man he kisses at work every day is actually his twin brother.

There is another twist in how Mollica ended up in the Maximoff family. He told Pedestrian Daily that he had previously auditioned for an MCU role without knowing which character it was, and he only realized afterward that it was Billy. That is the part Locke went on to play in ‘Agatha All Along.’

Mollica also described Bettany as a mentor on the project. That bond is central to the show, which leans heavily into a father-and-son dynamic between Vision and Tommy. Bringing Billy back adds a second son to the emotional equation.

With ‘VisionQuest,’ Locke becomes one of the only actors to appear in 2 live-action MCU shows on Disney+, alongside Bettany himself. Billy’s return also keeps the door open for the Young Avengers, since both twins are major players in that team. Reintroducing both brothers in their teen forms sets the stage for a possible team-up in future projects.

It is worth noting that nothing beyond Locke’s return has been confirmed. Some outlets have speculated about other ‘Agatha All Along’ faces turning up, but those remain rumors for now. For viewers, the thrill is simply seeing Billy, Tommy and Vision share the screen.

Critics have also been generous, with one outlet calling the series a staggering achievement and singling out Bettany and Spader for praise. The emotional stakes may be at their highest once the twins finally meet. That makes the remaining episodes appointment viewing.

Are you excited to see Billy and Tommy Maximoff reunite in VisionQuest?
