Hilary Swank has spent a career surprising audiences, from her Oscar-winning turns in ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ and ‘Million Dollar Baby’ to her transition into television. Swank became a first-time mom to twins in April 2023, when she was 48. She and her husband, Philip Schneider, who married in 2018 after meeting on a blind date in 2016, welcomed Aya and Ohm just 3 years ago. At the time, she shared the news on Easter Sunday with a photo of herself holding the newborns, calling the journey worth it.

Now, in an announcement that caught fans off guard, Swank revealed she is expecting her third child with Schneider. She shared the news on Wednesday, Oct. 14, in a playful Instagram video, and a day later she made her first public appearance since the reveal, showing off her baby bump in New York City.

The announcement video featured Swank, Schneider and their twins as dancing neon stick figures in the dark. When the mom figure stepped out of the shadows, she revealed a glowing baby bump, and a tiny figure appeared inside the outline. The clip was set to Bachman-Turner Overdrive’s “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet.”

Swank also added a cheeky caption joking that people have been asking what project she is doing next, and that this one releases in December. That is her due date, which means the baby is expected at the end of the year. Fans quickly flooded the comments with congratulations, with one calling her a warrior.

On Thursday, Oct. 15, Swank was photographed leaving a taping of ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ at CBS Studios in New York City. She smiled and waved at fans while letting her bare bump show beneath a white top. She completed the look with a colorful chunky knit cardigan, loose light-wash jeans, a red handbag and navy pointed-toe heels.

She also decorated her bump with a tiny glow-stick baby, a callback to the announcement video. Outlets reported that she looked to be in great spirits, and she appeared excited to greet fans along the way. It was the first time she had stepped out publicly since sharing her news.

During her recent interviews, Swank has been candid about becoming a mom later in life. She has said that she knew she wanted children someday, but she was not planning what that would look like. She has also talked about freezing her eggs and clarified that she would have had kids earlier if the timing had worked out.

She told People in May that having babies later has allowed her to be present, giving her what she describes as far more patience and bandwidth. She also said that she feels fortunate to be able to prioritize time with her children, noting that she gets a lot of Mother’s Days other than the actual holiday. In a separate People interview, she said she found out about this pregnancy like everyone else, by taking a test, and felt elated and grateful.

Swank has also been using her platform to advocate for transparency around products for children. She has spoken about her support for California Bill AB 1901, which seeks greater transparency about the ingredients used in diapers. It is a cause that clearly connects to her life as a parent.

Her acting career has not been far from the spotlight either. She previously starred in and co-produced ABC’s ‘Alaska Daily,’ and she is best known for her 2 Academy Awards. For now, though, the project that matters most to her is the one she teased in her caption.

With the baby due in December, Swank’s family is preparing for a big winter. Her twins are now 3, and they will soon become big siblings, which should make for plenty of sweet moments to come.
