Adrianne Palicki Is Ready to Suit Up as Mockingbird Again in Marvel’s ‘Zodiac’
Marvel fans have spent years wondering what became of the characters who populated ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Some of them have since popped up in other corners of the franchise, while others have been left in limbo. Now a brand-new Marvel series is giving that conversation fresh life.
That series is ‘Zodiac‘, a live-action spy thriller that Marvel Television announced at New York Comic Con on Oct. 8. Head of Marvel Television, Animation, Comics & Franchise Brad Winderbaum told the crowd at New York Comic Con that it is “a spy thriller.” The series will begin shooting in London in spring 2027 and premiere on Disney+ in 2028, with casting set to start within a couple of weeks of the panel.
One former ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ star has already raised her hand. Adrianne Palicki, who played Bobbi Morse, also known as Mockingbird, says she would love to return for the show. Speaking with Comics, Beer & Sci-Fi, she said she misses Bobbi and hopes the character comes back, adding that she would love to put on the uniform again.
Palicki’s reaction has a charming backstory. She said she learned about ‘Zodiac’ only the day before, after a fan approached her and asked about it. She had no idea the series existed, which makes her enthusiasm feel like an immediate gut reaction rather than a planned campaign.
It’s also worth noting what her comments do and don’t say. Palicki wasn’t able to confirm anything, and her remarks don’t suggest that Marvel has approached her. This is simply an actress letting fans know she would be glad to return.
The logo for ‘Zodiac’ has fueled speculation that the show connects to S.H.I.E.L.D. Pieces of the organization’s logo appear to be scattered through the title design, and Winderbaum invited comics readers to look closely for clues. The ‘O’ in the title also resembles an arc reactor, adding to the puzzle.
Marvel hasn’t confirmed any characters, cast members or plot details. In the comics, Zodiac is a criminal group whose members are named after the 12 astrological signs. ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, for its part, ran for 7 seasons on ABC from 2013 to 2020, so many fans see a natural home for returning favorites.
Palicki joined ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ in its second season in 2014 as Bobbi Morse, a highly trained agent known to comics fans as Mockingbird. She was written off during the third season, when Bobbi and her ex-husband Lance Hunter resigned from S.H.I.E.L.D. to protect the agency’s secrets. At the time, fans expected her to lead a spinoff titled ‘Marvel’s Most Wanted’, which never happened.
That history is part of why her return resonates. Palicki has said before that she was waiting for a call to suit back up, and in 2019 she revealed that producers had not contacted her about the final season. Years later, fans still ask her about it.

Palicki has built a notable career in the genre. Before Mockingbird, she played Wonder Woman in NBC’s unaired pilot and Kara in ‘Smallville’. This year she told a fan panel at SpaceCon that her last comic book dream role is Rogue, while also saying she wants more Mockingbird in Marvel.
She has also credited fans for keeping her career going, and she has encouraged them to start a Mockingbird campaign. That kind of direct connection with an audience is part of why the ‘Zodiac’ news landed so quickly. Fans have been asking for this reunion for years.
‘Zodiac’ is the first new live-action Marvel series announced since ‘Ironheart’ in 2025, and it arrives as the franchise’s live-action slate thins out. ‘Wonder Man’ was canceled after one season, and the third and final season of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is expected in 2027. ‘VisionQuest’ premiered on Oct. 14.
The new direction appears to emphasize shows that are less tied to the films. If ‘Zodiac’ leans into the S.H.I.E.L.D. connection, it could give returning ‘Agents’ favorites a place to land. Clark Gregg, who played Phil Coulson, reportedly shared the announcement, which sparked more speculation.
For now, there is no cast list. Casting is expected to begin soon, so names could emerge in the coming months. Until then, Palicki’s comments are a reminder of how much goodwill ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ still has among fans.
Whether Marvel picks up the phone is another matter. But with the show built around espionage and a logo that nods to S.H.I.E.L.D., the door is at least open.
Should Adrianne Palicki return as Mockingbird in Marvel's Zodiac?
