‘Fortnite’ Gets Freaky: Nikki’s ‘Obsession’ Skin Makes Its Terrifying First Appearance
Few horror movies have turned into a cultural phenomenon the way ‘Obsession‘ has. Director Curry Barker made his feature debut with a budget of just $750,000, and the film went on to earn more than $500 million worldwide. Focus Features acquired it after its Midnight Madness debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, reportedly paying around $14 million.
The story follows Bear (Michael Johnston), a music shop employee who uses a mysterious novelty item called the One Wish Willow to wish that his longtime crush Nikki (Inde Navarrette) will love him. What follows is a twisted take on the old ‘be careful what you wish for’ idea, and Nikki, nicknamed ‘Freaky Nikki,’ became the film’s breakout figure. Several publications have even called her a potential modern horror icon.
Now Nikki is heading to a very different battlefield. An exclusive first look at Nikki Freeman’s ‘Fortnite’ skin has arrived, showing two shadowy images of her in dim, moody lighting, just in time for Fortnitemares 2026.

The first look follows a trail of breadcrumbs. Update v42.40 on October 15 added an ‘Obsession’-themed Sprite called One Wish Willow, along with encrypted files for Nikki. According to leakers, the full bundle includes the outfit, a back bling, a pickaxe and an emote.
Leakers say the emote uses a prop and has a special version when used with the Nikki skin. Nikki also gets her own lobby idle animation, and the back bling reportedly plays a sound on eliminations. A second style is expected to be a bloodier variant that mostly changes her face while keeping her red-and-black top.
The blood detail fits with a recent update to the game’s ESRB rating, which now includes an Animated Blood content descriptor. Prices haven’t been confirmed, though the outfit is expected to cost 1,500 V-Bucks, and like another recent live-action collab skin, it could possibly be earned through a Fortnite Cup.
The ‘Obsession’ collab is set to launch on October 21 during Fortnitemares 2026, when players can pick up the Freaky Nikki skin along with the other cosmetics. Epic Games officially confirmed the collab with a new teaser, ending months of speculation.

Only Nikki has been found in the files so far. No Bear outfit has leaked, and Epic hasn’t hinted at a second skin.
This crossover has been brewing since the summer. In July, Epic released a 58-second trailer called ‘The Obsession is Real,’ made with Focus Features and Blumhouse, that recut scenes from the film and swapped Nikki out for a Zero Point Sprite. The clip didn’t tease any skins at the time, which left fans guessing.
Fans had already been asking for the skin. A fan-made concept of Nikki with a custom pickaxe and back bling went viral months earlier, with players demanding the character for Fortnitemares. It also helps that Navarrette is a longtime gamer who used to stream ‘Call of Duty’ on Twitch.

Horror collabs have become a Halloween tradition for ‘Fortnite.’ Last year’s lineup leaned heavily on horror films, bringing in ‘The Black Phone,’ ‘Scream’ and ‘Terrifier,’ so a Nikki outfit slots right into that pattern.
The timing also works for the film. ‘Obsession’ has been a box office story from the start, with a second-weekend jump nearing 40 percent that analysts described as virtually unprecedented. Focus even pushed merchandise, including replicas of the One Wish Willow, and the real-life ones sold out in less than 24 hours.

Barker isn’t slowing down, either. His next film, ‘Anything but Ghosts,’ is set for May 7, 2027, with Focus Features. For now, though, the focus is on Nikki and whether she’ll prove as popular in the Battle Royale as she was in theaters.
Will you be adding Nikki to your locker?
