Callina Liang’s Chun-Li Swaps Spinning Bird Kicks for a Cheeky Twerk Attempt in Viral ‘Street Fighter’ Set Clip
Callina Liang’s behind-the-scenes content has become a major part of the ‘Street Fighter’ story. From bruised, battle-worn costume photos to training clips, the actress has given fans an unusually candid look at what it took to become Chun-Li.
Much of that footage has leaned on grit. Liang trained for 2 hours a day in taekwondo, Muay Thai and wushu, ramped up to 4 hours a day for 6 weeks before cameras rolled, and has described fighting for 5 hours at a time with stunt performers on set.
Now a much lighter moment from the production is making the rounds. A short, 8-second behind-the-scenes video shows Liang’s Chun-Li attempting to twerk between takes on a dimly lit, red-tinted industrial set, and the clip has been spreading quickly online. It’s a goofy, unpolished contrast to the serious fighter audiences have been watching in theaters.

The clip is brief and completely unglamorous, which is part of its charm. There are no stunt wires or choreography, just a cast member letting loose while the crew resets, and fans have been responding to the humor of seeing the character break from her fierce persona.
It’s also unclear when exactly the footage was filmed, but the set matches the physical builds that Liang has praised in interviews. She has said much of the world was built for real at Disney Studios in Sydney, including huge rooms like Bison’s office, which made the sets feel immersive for the cast.
The tone of the clip lands in sharp contrast with the effort behind the role. Liang followed a bulking diet that reportedly included 12 eggs a day, and by the end of production each of her thighs had reportedly grown by 6.5 centimeters. She also downloaded the games onto a PlayStation 5 and recorded Chun-Li’s moves in slow motion to study them.
That commitment has earned praise even from viewers who aren’t sold on the movie itself. Seeing her relax on set makes the intense work feel more human, and it fits the generally good-natured tone that has come out of the production.

This isn’t the first time lighthearted set footage has gone viral. During filming in Australia, Andrew Schulz, who plays Dan Hibiki, shared a video playfully teasing Liang and Noah Centineo between takes, appearing to cast a ‘spell’ on the pair as Liang looked confused and Centineo tried to run away.
Moments like these have helped fans connect with a cast that includes Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, David Dastmalchian, Roman Reigns and Jason Momoa. For a franchise whose earlier film adaptations left fans disappointed, the genuine camaraderie seems to be a welcome change.

The attention comes as the film continues its theatrical run. ‘Street Fighter’ opened at No. 1 with $31 million from 3,575 theaters, and added $20.1 million internationally for a $51.1 million worldwide start. Reviews have been mixed, with praise for the cast, fight scenes and stylish animated sequences, and criticism aimed at the script.
It also earned a B- CinemaScore, so word of mouth remains a question. Director Kitao Sakurai has said he is interested in making a sequel, though he has noted that it depends on how audiences and fans respond.
Clips like this show how much behind-the-scenes content has become part of a movie’s afterlife. A silly 8-second video can reach a bigger audience than a trailer, especially when it shows an actress willing to laugh at herself.
For Liang, whose breakout year has included a magazine cover and a major studio lead, the moment adds one more layer to a public image that has swung from fierce fighter to glamorous cover star to someone who clearly enjoys herself on set.
