A New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Look Is Landing During the World Series, and a Stormy Teaser Has Fans Watching the Skies
Marvel Studios has spent the better part of a year building up ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ one piece at a time. Since last December, the studio has rolled out character teasers, a full trailer, a special look at Doctor Doom and a steady stream of posters and merchandise, all leading to a December 18 release.
The campaign has leaned on big stages. The first trailer arrived in July, a special look screened at D23 in August with ticket sales opening the same day, and the franchise has used everything from theater screenings to convention panels to keep the countdown going.
Now Marvel is turning to baseball. A new look at ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to release on Friday, and it will launch during the first game of the World Series on FOX, giving the film another high-profile moment in front of a huge live audience.

A short teaser has already appeared ahead of the full reveal. The 12-second clip, shared through MLB, shows a packed stadium under a dark, churning sky while a row of players in their uniforms lean on the dugout rail and look upward at the storm clouds. It is a simple image, but it sets the tone for a film built around an enormous threat.
The ominous sky also fits the story. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ sees the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men facing Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, a villain who, according to Marvel’s pitch, is trying to rewrite the multiverse in his image. Placing the teaser in a sports setting is a clever way to bring that scale into an everyday moment.
The Russo brothers, who directed ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’, are back in the director’s chair, with Stephen McFeely co-writing. The film features a massive cast that brings together heroes from different Marvel properties, including Avengers, X-Men and Fantastic Four characters.
Downey’s role as Doom marks his return to the MCU for the first time since ‘Avengers: Endgame’, though not as Iron Man. The earlier special look put the villain front and center, giving fans a closer view of a version of the character that has been described as broken.
The campaign has also teased surprises for returning favorites. A December teaser showed Steve Rogers, who is set to return but not as Captain America, and newer merchandise has revealed a so-called Worthy Star logo that pairs Steve and Thor under a new emblem.
Meanwhile, posters have showcased the heroes who will fight Doom, including characters from the Avengers, X-Men and Fantastic Four teams. Together they paint a picture of a crossover that few fans expected to see on screen.

Releasing a new look during a major sporting event is a smart play for a film that needs to reach beyond the usual fan base. The World Series opens Friday, October 23, and every game airs on FOX, which guarantees a large audience for the reveal.
It also follows a familiar strategy. Big-budget films have often used live sports broadcasts to debut new footage because they offer a mass audience that is actually watching in real time, rather than scrolling past a trailer drop.
With less than two months before release, the pace of the campaign should only increase. Ticket sales are open, additional marketing is expected to ramp up, and the film arrives a year before ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, which is scheduled for December 17, 2027.
For now, fans have a Friday date to circle and a moody teaser to dissect. The skies over the stadium may just be a hint at what is coming for the heroes.
What do you most want to see in the new footage?
