Apple TV Marks a Wrap on ‘Slow Horses’ With Cast Photos as Jackson Lamb’s Next Mission Is Already in the Can
Few shows reward patience quite like ‘Slow Horses.’ It follows a team of disgraced British intelligence agents banished to a dingy corner of MI5, led by the unkempt, acid-tongued Jackson Lamb. Fans have come to love its dry humor, sudden violence and tendency to shock them when they least expect it.
The Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning spy drama stars Gary Oldman, with Jack Lowden and Kristin Scott Thomas alongside him. Apple TV has built a reliable rhythm around it, releasing a six-episode season every year. That consistency has made the show one of the streamer’s most dependable hits.
Now Apple TV has shared a post marking the end of an era for the latest chapter. In a short message, the streamer said, “That’s a wrap on Season 6 of #SlowHorses,” alongside a set of cast photos that includes Oldman and several co-stars posing together inside a church.
The photos have the relaxed look of a behind-the-scenes farewell, with the cast gathered close and smiling. Oldman stands at the left in a tan coat, with the ensemble clustered around him. A second image appears to show another cast member in soft light, suggesting a series of portraits rather than a single group shot.
It’s worth noting how the timing fits together. Season 6 premiered on September 16 and ended its weekly run with the finale on October 21, so the post arrives days after the story concluded on screen.

The six-episode season adapted two of Mick Herron’s novels, ‘Joe Country’ and ‘Slough House,’ the sixth and seventh books in the series. It was the first season to cover two novels. The story put the Slow Horses on the run after Diana Taverner threw them into a high-stakes game of retaliation and revenge.
Gaby Chiappe adapted the season after Will Smith, who wrote the first five seasons, stepped back, and Adam Randall returned to direct. The ensemble included returning faces such as Hugo Weaving as Frank Harkness, plus newcomers including Lenny Rush, Kyle Soller and Harry Lloyd. The season reportedly debuted with a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The finale ended on a shock that left the fate of River Cartwright in question. Chiappe explained the ending in an interview, though she did not technically confirm what happened. The first teaser for the next season, which aired after the finale, adds to the mystery, and Lowden does not appear in it.
For readers of the books, that detail is intriguing, since River does not die in the original novels. Fans will have to wait for more information.
One of the show’s quirks is how far ahead it shoots. Apple renewed the show for a sixth season in October 2024, and Oldman said that season had already wrapped filming when the fifth season was still on the way. Apart from season 5, the show has shot two six-episode seasons back-to-back, so one chapter is filming while the previous one is in post-production.
That approach also means season 7 has already been filmed. It was ordered in July 2025 and is based on ‘Bad Actors,’ the eighth novel in the series.
The season 7 teaser suggests Lamb and his team will hunt a mole at the heart of the British government. It also hints that Taverner will be on the run, with the Russian storyline continuing. Ben Vanstone is writing the season, and Apple has not announced a release date, though a fall 2027 premiere looks likely based on the show’s pattern.
Production for season 8 is reportedly underway, following a renewal through that season. That means Apple has already committed to a long runway for the series.

In an era when many series disappear after a few seasons, ‘Slow Horses’ has kept a steady pace and a loyal following. The wrap post is a small moment, but it underlines how much work goes into each short season. For fans, the good news is that the next one is already waiting.
