Few thrillers have turned into a commercial phenomenon as quickly as ‘The Housemaid’. Paul Feig’s adaptation of Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel opened in December 2025 to $19 million and kept going, collecting $125 million domestically and nearly $400 million globally on a $35 million budget. That kind of return made a follow-up inevitable, and Lionsgate announced the sequel just 17 days after the first film’s release.

That sequel, ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’, is now deep in production. Lionsgate confirmed filming with a behind-the-scenes video that showed Sydney Sweeney hugging new co-star Kirsten Dunst, followed by shots of Feig and newcomers Paul Anthony Kelly, Michele Morrone, Brittany Snow and Stephen Kalyn dancing in costume. Sweeney and Morrone were later photographed filming scenes together in Hoboken, New Jersey.

Now fresh set photos are giving fans a look at another pairing from the cast. Kelly and Snow have been photographed filming together on a city street lined with brownstone-style stoops. Kelly wears a dark navy peacoat over a denim-style shirt, while Snow wears an olive tweed coat, a red patterned blouse and a large tote bag, and the two appear relaxed and laughing in one frame.

Kelly, the ‘Love Story’ breakout, plays Douglas Garrick, the wealthy husband of Dunst’s Wendy Garrick. Snow, known for ‘Pitch Perfect’ and ‘The Hunting Wives’, plays Marybeth, an unassuming receptionist at his company. Their characters’ relationship has not been detailed, so the photos raise more questions than they answer.

The two were also photographed together on the New Jersey set earlier this month, which suggests they share a number of scenes. Snow’s casting was announced in August, when she posted a video holding a copy of McFadden’s novel. Feig welcomed her to the family in the comments, and Sweeney said she couldn’t be more excited.

‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ adapts the second book in McFadden’s series and continues the story of Millie Calloway. After the events of the first film, Millie takes a job keeping house for a woman she’s never allowed to see. She then discovers the truth behind a locked door that threatens to expose secrets far darker than her own.

Sweeney returns as Millie and also serves as an executive producer, along with McFadden. Morrone is back as Enzo, who is described in the sequel as the groundskeeper and confidant of a character named Nina. Rebecca Sonnenshine, who wrote the first film’s screenplay, returns to adapt the sequel.

One notable absence from the announcements is Amanda Seyfried, who starred as Nina Winchester in the first film alongside Brandon Sklenar. Neither has been announced for the sequel, though Seyfried has told Variety she could see herself making a brief appearance. The novel’s central story does not include Nina and Andrew.

That leaves the new ensemble to carry the sequel. Dunst joined the cast in March, Kelly was announced in June and Snow followed in August. Kalyn’s casting as a character named Brock was announced around the same time.

Lionsgate has set the film for release on December 17, 2027, almost exactly 2 years after the original. That date is ambitious, since ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ and ‘Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum’ are scheduled for the same day. Industry coverage has described the studio’s plan as counter-programming for the holiday corridor.

Lionsgate has also said it hopes to turn ‘The Housemaid’ into a major franchise, with a third McFadden novel, ‘The Housemaid Is Watching’, available for future adaptation. The new set photos suggest the sequel’s ensemble is already building chemistry. With more than a year to go before release, expect plenty more glimpses.
