‘North of North’ Returns to Netflix: What to Know Before Siaja’s Next Chapter
Few shows have charmed streaming audiences quite like ‘North of North‘. The Arctic-set comedy follows a young Inuk mother trying to build a new life in a tiny community, and it earned a loyal following through warmth, humor and a distinctive voice. After a wait that has felt long for fans, Siaja is finally heading back to Ice Cove.
The series was the first original to come out of Netflix’s Canada office. It was created by Stacey Aglok MacDonald and Alethea Arnaquq-Baril and is co-produced with the CBC in partnership with APTN. Its first season premiered in Canada in January 2025 before reaching Netflix globally in April 2025, and it broke into the streamer’s top 10 in 33 countries with nearly 9 million views between April and June 2025.
Now the second season is about to land for the rest of the world. The ‘North of North’ Season 2 premiere will bring all 8 episodes to Netflix at once, following a Canadian broadcast run that began in early September. A new teaser clip shows a tense moment with a shirtless man in a doorway asking, “Why didn’t you tell me?”, and Netflix has leaned on the chemistry and tension between its characters to sell the new batch of episodes.

The official logline sets the stage: as winter closes in on Ice Cove, Siaja is still making bold decisions and even bolder mistakes in her effort to level up her life. The hardest part is proving to her tight-knit Arctic community, and to herself, that she is ready to take charge. Netflix’s description adds that she learns that blowing up your life on impulse is easier than building the one you want, which takes more planning and a lot more hustle.
The trailer shows Siaja continuing her quest for an independent identity after leaving her traditional marriage to the town’s insensitive golden boy. Her search for a new love life is complicated by a very small population. Anna Lambe has said that her character’s life basically implodes this season, with things unraveling no matter how hard Siaja tries.
Lambe returns as Siaja alongside Maika Harper as her mother Neevee, Braeden Clarke as Kuuk, Jay Ryan as her father Alistair and Mary Lynn Rajskub as Helen. The cast also includes Zorga Qaunaq as Millie, Bailey Poching as Colin, Nutaaq Doreen Simmonds as Elisapee and Keira Cooper as Bun. Guest appearances include cameos from Indigenous content creators and a guest spot from Elisapie.
Season 1 left the characters in plenty of tangles. Siaja met her father, learned through Neevee that she has a sister somewhere else in the world, and connected with Kuuk, who happened to have a girlfriend. Those threads give the new season a lot of emotional ground to cover, including a conflict between Siaja’s desire to learn about her family and Neevee’s wish to leave the past behind.
Production on the second season began on January 20, 2026, with filming in Iqaluit, Nunavut, and Toronto, Ontario. A wrap post from the official show account arrived on April 12. Directors this season include Zoe Leigh Hopkins, Lisa Jackson, Yael Staav and Jason Priestley.
The show is set in the fictional town of Ice Cove, Nunavut, in the Arctic Circle, and it is produced by Red Marrow Media and Northwood Entertainment. Its first season was the most-watched new series on CBC Gem since the platform launched, according to the producers. That success helped make a renewal an easy call for the three partners.

Netflix is dropping the whole season at once, and each episode is a half-hour comedy, which makes it a perfect weekend watch. Reviewers have described the series as a fresh, warm small-town story that appeals to viewers who enjoy quirky comedies with a strong sense of place. The A.V. Club said the trailer promises more warm laughs in the Arctic cold.
For newcomers, the first season is available on Netflix now, so there is time to catch up before the new episodes arrive. The setup is simple: Siaja leaves her husband, tries to start over and discovers that a fresh start comes with plenty of surprises. That clear emotional hook makes it easy to jump in.
The newest clip emphasizes romantic tension, and the second season seems poised to dig into relationships of every kind. Family, friendship and love all collide in a community where everyone knows everyone else’s business. That close-knit setting is a big part of what makes the humor land and the stakes feel personal.
As winter settles over Ice Cove, the show appears ready to build on what made the first season such a hit while giving Siaja new challenges. Whether she succeeds in leveling up her life is the question that will keep viewers hooked.
