Some creative partnerships just refuse to quit. Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham made their names together in the late 1990s, and more than 25 years later they are still finding new ways to team up. Their latest project is heading to Netflix, and it takes them back to familiar ground.

The pair first worked together on ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’, Ritchie’s 1998 directorial debut, which gave Statham his first film role. They followed it with ‘Snatch’, and over the years the collaboration has stretched across crime comedies, spy capers and gritty thrillers. Few director-and-star duos in modern British cinema have such a long and productive track record.

Now Netflix has announced that Ritchie and Statham will reunite on ‘Dogfight‘, a revenge film set in the London criminal underworld. Ritchie will write, direct and produce, while Statham stars and produces through his company Punch Palace. Production is set to begin in the U.K. in early 2027, and the project counts as their seventh film together.

Details are extremely limited. Netflix has billed the film as a stylish revenge actioner and has not shared a plot synopsis, a cast list beyond Statham or a release date. Netflix’s own Tudum article jokes that plot details remain under lock, stock and key, and adds that the film will return the pair to the criminal underground of London.

The production team is more settled. Ritchie will produce with Statham, Ivan Atkinson of his Toff Guy Films banner and John Friedberg of Black Bear. Black Bear, which has backed most of Ritchie’s recent titles, is the studio behind the project alongside Toff Guy Films and Punch Palace.

Netflix’s tease points to the style audiences expect from the pair. Over the years, they have made films about con artists, card sharps, spies, boxing promoters and armored truck drivers. A London gangster story is a natural fit for both of them.

‘Dogfight’ is also notable because it is the first film the pair has made specifically for Netflix. Their previous work has largely been released through theatrical or other studios, though the streamer has benefited from it. ‘Wrath of Man’, their 2021 collaboration, arrived on Netflix in December 2025 and pulled in 8.3 million views during its two weeks in the global top 10.

The deal deepens Ritchie’s relationship with the platform. He created the Netflix series ‘The Gentlemen’, starring Theo James and based on his 2019 film, and the show returned for a second season in September. Netflix has clearly decided that Ritchie’s brand of stylish crime storytelling works for its audience.

Statham’s career has also become closely tied to Black Bear. The company recently released news of a meta action comedy called ‘Jason Statham Stole My Bike’, directed by David Leitch and set for release on August 6, 2027. That project reflects how busy the actor remains.

The announcement arrives while the duo has other projects in the pipeline. ‘Viva La Madness’, a thriller based on a J.J. Connolly novel, has already wrapped production, and reports differ on whether it connects to ‘Layer Cake’. Some accounts describe it as a sequel to that film, while others say it is a stand-alone original.

Ritchie is also juggling several other releases. His film ‘Wife and Dog’, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, is due in theaters on February 19, 2027, and reports have noted that the director’s output has been remarkably prolific. That pace is part of what keeps his collaborations with Statham feeling regular rather than rare.

It also raises the question of how ‘Dogfight’ will differ from their earlier work. A revenge story set in London’s criminal underground allows plenty of room for sharp dialogue, ensemble casting and bursts of violence. Those are the ingredients that have defined their best movies.

For longtime fans, the news is a chance to see the duo return to the genre that made them famous. Their early films helped shape a style of British crime cinema, and the idea of a new entry in that tradition is appealing. Netflix’s global reach gives the project a large potential audience.

For the streamer, it adds another recognizable name to a crowded action slate. Statham is a proven draw, and Ritchie’s track record on Netflix gives the company confidence. A release date is not yet set, so viewers will have to wait.

Until more details emerge, the main questions are who will join Statham on screen and how the story will unfold. Cast announcements could arrive well before cameras roll next year. For now, the pairing alone is enough to generate interest.
