‘The Beekeeper 2’ Trailer and Release Date Revealed: Jason Statham’s Sequel Arrives
Every so often, a January release slips past the season’s reputation for leftovers and turns into a genuine crowd-pleaser. ‘The Beekeeper‘ did exactly that, and the appetite for ‘The Beekeeper 2’ trailer footage has been growing ever since a sequel was announced.
The first film pulled in $162.6 million at the box office and earned a 92% Rotten Tomatoes score. Amazon MGM Studios later acquired worldwide rights to the follow-up in a deal worth more than $50 million. It was a confident bet on a movie about a retired assassin who happens to keep bees.
The wait for a proper look is over. Miramax has revealed the official trailer, and the film is confirmed for theaters on the MLK holiday weekend. That is exactly three years after the first film opened on the same holiday weekend. The promotional material bills it as a theatrical-only release in premium formats, and it carries an R rating.

Jason Statham is back as Adam Clay, and this time the stakes are personal and political. Clay becomes a wanted man when he has to save President Jessica Danforth, played by Jemma Redgrave, from the Beekeepers, her own secret organization, which has gone rogue. The trailer’s pitch is that the most dangerous operative the program ever created is now the only person who can stop it.
None of this is a complete surprise. Footage shown at CinemaCon earlier this year had Jeremy Irons’ Wallace Westwyld warning Clay that the Beekeepers had gone rogue, while Clay searched for a missing friend. That same footage showed him releasing a swarm of bees into a locked room and turning his enemies’ own weapons against them.
The tone appears to lean fully into the absurdity that made the original such a hit. In that footage, Clay even mentions using bee stings to slow the bleeding from his wounds. Subtlety was never the point of this franchise.
David Ayer is not returning to direct, with ‘Nobody 2’ director Timo Tjahjanto taking his place. Ayer is busy with his next project, Brad Pitt’s ‘The Heart of the Beast’. That could have been a worry, but Tjahjanto’s résumé suggests a natural fit for the material.
He is known for intense action films such as ‘The Night Comes for Us’. He has said he was drawn to the sequel because Clay resembles one of his favorite Marvel characters, The Punisher. He has also described the villains as “unpredictable” and “colorful,” the kind who feel like they stepped out of an anime or manga.
The ensemble blends familiar faces with some fun additions. Emmy Raver-Lampman, Bobby Naderi, Jemma Redgrave and Jeremy Irons all return from the original, while Yara Shahidi, Pom Klementieff and Adam Copeland join as newcomers. Irons plays Wallace Westwyld, the former CIA director who now heads security for Danforth Enterprises.
Behind the scenes, Statham is once again wearing a producer’s hat. He produces alongside Chris Long and Kurt Wimmer. Principal photography reportedly began on September 26, 2025, and wrapped roughly two months later.
Part of the original’s charm was its simple, escalating revenge premise. One critic compared it to ‘John Wick’, swapping the puppy-killing villains for phishing scammers who target the elderly. By turning the Beekeeper program itself into the enemy, the sequel gets room to expand the mythology without losing that pulpy energy.
Timing also works in its favor. Statham has kept busy this year with ‘Shelter’ and ‘Mutiny’, so audiences have had a steady diet of his brand of no-nonsense action. A sequel that promises bigger set pieces and weirder weapons should stand out in that crowd.
It will not have the weekend to itself, though. The sequel opens against competition that includes Paramount’s ‘Children of Blood and Bone’ and a new Universal and Blumhouse project. Still, the first film proved that a bee-themed vigilante can hold his own on a crowded holiday frame.
