Mike Myers’ Cryptic Instagram Post Has Fans Dreaming of ‘Wayne’s World 3’
Few comedy duos have lingered in pop culture quite like Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar. The metal-loving hosts of a public-access show in Aurora, Illinois, started out as a ‘Saturday Night Live’ sketch before becoming a big-screen phenomenon in 1992.
That original film was directed by Penelope Spheeris and produced by Lorne Michaels, with Mike Myers and Dana Carvey starring as the pair. It earned about $183 million at the box office, while the 1993 follow-up made around $72 million and was less financially successful, which helped explain why the franchise went quiet.
Now Myers may have stirred the pot again. He posted a cryptic message on Instagram that plays on the idea of making the world Wayne’s again, before declaring that it will be his, and fans immediately wondered whether a new ‘Wayne’s World’ film could be on the way.
The post came with no further details, and no studio has confirmed a new movie. Neither Myers nor Carvey has ruled out another film, but nothing about a revival is official.
That means the message should be read as a playful tease rather than a confirmation. Still, the playful wording is exactly what fans would expect from Wayne, and for a franchise that has been quiet for years, even a hint feels significant.
It also lands at a moment when nostalgia sequels are everywhere, which makes fans more hopeful that Wayne and Garth could eventually join the trend.
This is far from the first time the duo has flirted with a return. They reunited on the Oscars stage in 2019 to introduce ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, stepping back into their personas for a few minutes of pure nostalgia.
They returned again for an Uber Eats Super Bowl ad, which marked the first time they had played Wayne and Garth since the ‘Saturday Night Live’ 40th-anniversary special in 2015. That spot also followed a Wayne’s World Zoom reunion that featured members of Aerosmith, Queen’s Roger Taylor and Alice Cooper.
Carvey has been the most vocal about wanting more. At the Mark Twain Prize event for Adam Sandler, he said another film is possible and that he is always game, while also joking that it might be done with puppets.
Myers has also left the door ajar over the years. In an interview with CTV, he said he would be interested in revisiting Wayne at some point and described the idea of seeing Wayne at 50 as intriguing.
He has even talked about the franchise’s history in candid terms. Myers has said he didn’t originally want to make a sequel, and that his first idea for it involved Wayne and Garth seceding to form their own country, the Kingdom of Waynedavia.
That willingness to joke about the characters could be the key to a revival. A story about grown-up Wayne and Garth, still hosting from a basement, plays directly into the self-aware humor that made the originals work.
Tia Carrere, who played Cassandra in both films, has said she would happily rejoin the cast. She has even joked that they could all come out on their walkers and rockers.
Spheeris, the director of the first film, has also played it coy about the idea. She has suggested that fans who want a new film should send their requests directly to Paramount.
Together, those comments show that the original team’s appetite hasn’t faded. What is missing is a studio announcement and a script that satisfies Myers.

For now, nothing has been confirmed, and the Instagram post is the only fresh clue. Fans have waited more than 30 years for a return, and a single cryptic caption won’t answer whether it will happen.
But with Carvey game, Carrere ready and Myers dropping hints, the odds look better than they have in years. Until Paramount says otherwise, the best approach is to enjoy the tease and keep the air guitars handy.
