Few prequels have leaned into the cost of divided loyalties quite like ‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood‘. The Starz series premiered its second season on Sept. 18, 2026, and its official synopsis promises that the two young couples will be tested and separated as every clan chooses a side in the rebellion.

With the first battle of the Jacobite rising behind them, the heroes are now living with the political consequences. Episode 8, titled ‘The Dance’, gathers nearly everyone at a royal celebration and puts each storyline under pressure at once.

How ‘The Dance’ Ends

The hour closes on a chilling realization for Julia and Henry. Julia watches Lovat giggle with Margaret Grant and remembers how often he has belittled her, then tells Henry that Lovat is going to get rid of her. Henry points out that a divorce would be too scandalous, but Julia answers that Lovat would keep William, whom he believes is his heir.

Then she says the quiet part out loud, that nobody calls it a scandal when a wife dies. Both stare at Lovat in horror as they understand he could have Julia killed so he can marry Margaret, and the episode ends there. Julia’s survival is left in doubt.

Henry and Julia’s Impossible Choice

Earlier at Merlewood, Julia explains that she cannot pass through the standing stones alone, because she could only travel the first time while pregnant with William, who can travel. She urges Henry to take their son and leave without her, but Henry refuses.

Henry then suggests they conceive another child and use that to return home, an idea Julia feels guilty about. A dance in a quiet room briefly lets them feel like themselves, and a mirror shows them in 1920s clothing as the story flashes to London. Even so, the relief does not last long.

Ellen Outmaneuvers Lord Grey

At Castle Leoch, Lord Grey arrives looking for Dougal, who escaped Fort William, and accuses Colum of treason for staying neutral. Grey has Colum arrested, but Dougal bursts in and offers himself in his brother’s place, and Grey wants both men executed.

Ellen buys her brothers time to pray, then goes to work on Grey, warning that executing Dougal would make him a Jacobite legend while sparing the brothers would make Grey look judicious. Grey agrees for now, and Ellen hands him coins she calls a tithe to peace.

The Price Ellen Charges

Ellen holds the deed to Castle Leoch, and she uses it to rebalance the family. Colum must make all clan decisions, which hollows out Dougal’s War Chief title, and Ellen receives the land bordering Broch Morda. Colum reluctantly agrees, and Ellen signs the castle over to him.

She then leaves Leoch without saying goodbye, and before she goes, Ned gives her a letter from her brother whose contents are never revealed.

Murtagh and Grace Run Out of Time

The saddest thread belongs to Murtagh, who sneaks onto the Camerons’ estate to see Grace and tells her he loves her. Then John announces he has acquired a sugarcane plantation in the West Indies and plans to take Grace with him. When Murtagh suggests running away or buying her bond, Grace says John will never release her.

Actor Rory Alexander says the pair are drawn together by shared experience. Speaking to Collider, he said “They’re both outsiders, and they recognize that in one another.” He also hinted that Murtagh will not simply give up.

What Comes Next

Brian also tells Murtagh that Lovat’s poison caused Ellen’s miscarriage, and that he spared Lovat only in exchange for the Broch Morda land. He accepts waiting for Ellen so long as she remains mistress of Clan Mackenzie. Lovat, meanwhile, is celebrated by the Crown after having his title and lands restored.

The season has two episodes left, and TheWrap’s release schedule lists ‘Another Man’s Shadow’ on Nov. 20 and the finale, ‘Twelfth Night’, on Nov. 27. With Julia’s life now at stake, the final stretch looks set to be tense.

What do you think will happen to Julia after her chilling realization about Lord Lovat?
