‘S.W.A.T. Exiles’ Episode 7 Recap & Ending Explained: Miranda’s Death Cracks the Conspiracy Wide Open
When ‘S.W.A.T.‘ wrapped its eight-season run on CBS in May 2025, Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson’s story looked finished. The Starz spinoff ‘S.W.A.T. Exiles’ premiered on Sept. 25, 2026 and brought Shemar Moore back to lead a last-chance unit of talented but unpredictable young officers.
The series has since leaned into serialized mystery, built around a mole inside the squad and someone who appears determined to see Hondo and the unit fail. Episode 7, titled ‘The Project’, arrived on Nov. 6 and pulled several of those threads tight at once.
How ‘The Project’ Ends
The hour ends with a gut punch. At the hospital, Hondo and Commander Pike get a call from Miranda Seitmeier, and Pike had planted a bug in Miranda’s belongings that revealed she is part of a larger conspiracy. Miranda now wants out, saying the plot has gone further than she agreed to, including hiring an assassin.
She drops a pin, and Hondo, Pike and Malik race to meet her, but they arrive to find Miranda’s car destroyed and Miranda dead. The episode ends with the team searching for a new lead into the wider conspiracy.
The Case That Starts the Episode
The mayor, played by Jerry O’Connell, assigns the team a case after a friend’s son died of an overdose from a strong new drug. According to the official synopsis, the drug is hitting LA’s teenagers and is smuggled inside high-end donut deliveries, pulling the Exiles into an undercover operation that turns dangerously personal.
The drug traces back to a local restaurant, but the suspect escapes when the team enters. He works for a larger operation run by a philanthropist, played by Joivan Wade, who uses community programs to hide the drug business.
Ethan Is Shot During the Raid
During the raid, a sniper shoots at Hondo, and the shooting turns out to be part of something bigger. Ethan is injured, and the squad rallies to save him.
S.W.A.T. locks onto the target and arrests him, and he warns that the neighborhood will suffer for it. Ethan survives, but he still has trauma to work through.
Malik’s Transfer and the Mole Question
Malik’s abrupt transfer out of S.W.A.T. sends shockwaves through the squad, but only Hondo and Ethan know the real reason. Hondo goes to Pike, who says she moved Malik because he is the mole, and after Hondo admits what he knew and explains why he kept Malik on the team, Pike reverses the transfer.
Malik’s new mission is to get more information from Miranda, who ignores his calls and still wants no part of the arrangement when he finds her. That makes the final phone call all the more surprising.
Healing the Team’s Fractures
The fallout from Jude’s undercover past is still felt. Jude offered to resign, but Hondo told him the team would move past it, though nobody has fully done so yet. Sam and her new friend Cassidy have frozen Hondo out, and Ethan is struggling with Malik’s betrayal.
At the hospital, Sam and Jude’s frost begins to thaw as they both put Ethan first. It is a small moment, but it suggests the squad can still become a team.

What the Showrunner Said About Hondo
Executive producer Jason Ning has said the spinoff is about a different version of its hero. Speaking to TV Insider, he said the goal was “showing audiences a Hondo they haven’t seen before.” He also noted that the mole arc is serialized, something the show can do now that it is no longer a broadcast series.
Ning also told TVLine that much of Hondo’s conflict with the new squad comes from him “coming in with his own ideas about leadership.” That generational friction has defined the team’s dynamic since the premiere.
What Comes Next
With Miranda gone, the conspiracy now has a body count, and the Exiles have lost their best chance at an inside source. Only three episodes remain, with new episodes arriving every Friday through Nov. 27, and the series was renewed for Season 2 before the first season even premiered.
Who do you think is behind the conspiracy in S.W.A.T. Exiles?
