Netflix to Adapt Audible’ Vampire Audio Drama, ‘Impact Winter,’ as Series

Netflix is bringing a popular audio drama to life as a new TV series. The streaming giant has secured the rights to Impact Winter, a podcast from Audible Originals that has already released three seasons and has a fourth in the works. Nearly 6 million subscribers have tuned in to hear this chilling tale, which blends horror and survival in a world thrown into chaos.

The story begins with a comet slamming into Earth, an event that darkens the skies by blocking out the sun. In the aftermath, a frozen, shadowy landscape emerges, and with it come dangerous creatures—vampires—that prey on the remaining humans. At the heart of the series are two sisters caught on opposing sides of the conflict.

One, a fierce vampire hunter named Darcy, leads a group of survivors in a fight for humanity’s future. The other, Hope, longs for a normal life and might risk everything to reclaim it. Their struggle unfolds in a British countryside setting, where a medieval castle serves as a stronghold for the resistance.

The podcast was created by Travis Beacham, a writer known for his work on films like Pacific Rim and Carnival Row. It features a talented British cast, including Bella Ramsey, Liam Cunningham, and Himesh Patel, delivering performances in immersive 3D audio.

Now, Beacham is teaming up with director Francis Lawrence, who brought The Hunger Games to the screen, to adapt this saga for Netflix. The production involves studios Skybound and Anonymous Content, with a lineup of executive producers backing the project.

This isn’t just another vampire story—it’s a mix of post-apocalyptic survival and tense family drama. The podcast’s success shows there’s an audience eager for this kind of gritty, atmospheric storytelling.

Fans can expect a fresh take on the war between humans and bloodthirsty creatures, with Lawrence’s experience in dystopian worlds likely shaping the show’s dark, gripping tone.

In my view, this adaptation has a lot of promise. Francis Lawrence knows how to build suspense and handle large-scale action, which could make Impact Winter stand out among other vampire tales.

The sister dynamic adds a personal stakes to the bigger fight, and if Netflix leans into that, it could be a hit. That said, with so many post-apocalyptic shows out there, it’ll need to bring something unique to keep viewers hooked beyond the initial buzz.
