‘Godzilla vs. Kong 3’ Begins Filming in Queensland, Australia, Says Kaitlyn Dever
Filming for Godzilla vs. Kong 3, the sequel to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, has officially started in Queensland, Australia. Actress Kaitlyn Dever, known for her role in The Last of Us, confirmed the news during an interview on April 4, 2025.
The new film, which doesn’t yet have an official title, is part of the Monsterverse franchise. Directed by Grant Sputore and written by Dave Callaham, it is the follow-up to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024) and will be the sixth film in the series. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on March 26, 2027.
The sequel stars Kaitlyn Dever, Dan Stevens, Jack O’Connell, Delroy Lindo, and Matthew Modine. Dever was the first actress to be cast in January 2025, and in the months that followed, the rest of the cast joined the project.
The film will continue the story of the giant monsters Godzilla and Kong, following the success of the previous movie, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which became the highest-grossing film in the Monsterverse with $571.9 million worldwide.
Before the sequel was officially announced, director Adam Wingard, who worked on Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, mentioned that he was interested in returning for a third film. However, he couldn’t commit due to other projects, including his upcoming film Onslaught. As a result, Grant Sputore was brought in to direct the new movie.
The success of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire in March 2024 pushed Legendary Pictures to move forward with a sequel, and the film was officially announced in May 2024.
