First Look at ‘Resident Evil Requiem’ Gameplay Reveals Chilling First- and Third-Person Action
Capcom has given fans their first glimpse of gameplay from Resident Evil Requiem during a recent livestream event. The footage showed short clips from both first-person and third-person perspectives, introducing us to the new main character, FBI Agent Grace Ashcroft.
In the first-person scenes, we see Ashcroft moving slowly through dark, creepy hallways with only a lighter to guide her way. The horror atmosphere is intense, especially when a large humanoid monster suddenly appears from the shadows behind her.
Another clip shows Ashcroft holding a handgun as she carefully explores a grand hallway. Here, the gameplay highlights her ability to “act with calm, deductive reasoning,” demonstrated by her inspecting a toolbox in close detail, a classic Resident Evil move.
The third-person footage is brief but gives a different view of the tense environment. We watch Ashcroft explore shadowy corridors and dimly lit rooms while the same frightening creature stalks nearby. Capcom explained the two perspectives serve different gameplay styles: the first-person view offers “tense, realistic gameplay,” while the third-person, over-the-shoulder camera lets players see “more of the action” and is “great for people who enjoy action-heavy gameplay.” Players will be able to switch between first- and third-person at any time using the Options menu during the campaign.

– First and Third Person
– Massive focus on Horror
– Leon was considered for protagonist but ultimately Grace was chosen for the horror aspect
– Theme is “addictive horror”
– Set 30 years after RE2
– Grace is introverted… pic.twitter.com/avcnlZsQUR
Capcom also confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem is set 30 years after the missile strike on Raccoon City, an event that happened at the end of Resident Evil 3. This timeline explains the massive crater shown in the announcement trailer. The name “Requiem” was chosen because, as Capcom said, “This game is a requiem, a eulogy to those who came before.”
Some fans had hoped for a big reveal about the series veteran Leon Kennedy, but nothing about him was shown in this preview. Capcom hinted there might be more information about Leon later, but for now, his role remains a mystery.
Resident Evil Requiem will launch on February 27, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S.
