Lux Pascal is stepping into the spotlight in a big way. The actress, who trained at Juilliard and is also known as Pedro Pascal’s sister, is taking on her first lead film role, and she’s got even bigger dreams ahead.

She stars in Miss Carbón, a movie based on a true story, which just hit theaters in Spain and will be coming to Netflix in the U.S. later this year. The film takes place in 2008 and tells the story of Carlita Rodríguez, a trans woman who became the first female coal miner in her town, Río Turbio, Argentina. Lux plays Carlita and says she had doubts at first when the role was offered to her.

“I was a little bit afraid of it because I really wanted to expand my possibilities as an actress,” she said. Even though she had already played many female characters during her time at Juilliard, she wasn’t sure about doing another story focused on transition. That changed after she met the real Carlita.

“When I met her, I was mesmerized by this air of disappointment of how the world has treated her,” Lux said. “I didn’t want to shy away from showing how sometimes that sadness is just impossible to hide.”

Lux relates to Carlita’s strength. She grew up in Orange County, California, as the youngest of four. Her father fled Chile during the Pinochet dictatorship, and her mother died by suicide when Lux was just seven. “We all have trauma,” she said. “And I know my own trauma, and I survived it.”

Right now, she’s in Montreal filming a romantic comedy called Love & Chaos. It’s her first English-language lead role. The movie’s director, Drew Denny, said, “She’s a tremendous listener with a deliciously dark sense of humor.” But Lux is already thinking beyond indie films. She wants to be in a superhero movie—and not just any superhero movie.

She’s hoping to play Jean Grey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “I feel so connected to her, both physically and mentally, and how she becomes Phoenix because she’s corrupted by the world,” Lux said. She’s trained in martial arts and is ready to jump into action.

She’s also got dreams of doing horror movies and even joining the world of The Lord of the Rings. “I would really love to kill as an elf,” she laughed.

And of course, working with Pedro Pascal is something she’d love to do again. Pedro, who’s about to appear in The Fantastic Four for Marvel, supports her fully. “It would be beautiful to finally engage in the conversations we would have when I was a kid and he was a young adult, and we were both dreaming about movies,” Lux said. Pedro’s already seen Miss Carbón and said, “Seeing Miss Carbón feels like a rehearsal for us.”

As for the future of the X-Men in the MCU, Marvel fans have been waiting a long time. Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, said back in 2019 that the mutants would eventually show up. He also said the MCU’s version of the X-Men would be different from the Fox movies.

The project is now moving forward. According to various reports, including Variety and Deadline, Marvel started meeting with writers in 2023. By 2024, Michael Lesslie was in talks to write the script and was confirmed in 2025. Jake Schreier, who directed Thunderbolts*, will lead the film. That movie is coming out in 2025, and fans are already paying attention.

Now everyone’s wondering who will be cast as the iconic characters, especially Jean Grey. Lux Pascal is clearly ready for the challenge. Let’s see if Marvel is listening.
