Audience Rotten Tomatoes Score Says James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ is One of the Best Superman Movies Ever Made
James Gunn’s Superman has finally hit theaters, and it’s already making a big splash with fans and critics. This new take on the Man of Steel marks the beginning of the new DC Universe on the big screen, and it stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
This time around, the story skips the usual origin tale. Superman is already saving the world, and things around him are wild. There are other heroes, villains, and a lot of action. The movie moves quickly and feels like anything could happen at any moment.
Early reactions on social media were full of excitement, and that energy didn’t stop there. Official reviews have been very positive too. According to Rotten Tomatoes, Superman is holding a 96% audience score based on over 1,000 reviews. That’s a strong number, especially for a reboot that had a lot of eyes on it.
Many fans have said the movie feels fun, magical, and even serious when it needs to be. The fight between Superman and Lex Luthor stood out to a lot of people because it felt meaningful and timely. One viewer said the movie showed how rich and powerful people can become dangerous without anyone keeping them in check. “We need someone like Superman in real life,” they wrote.
People liked that Superman isn’t all-powerful in this version. He relies on his friends and works as part of a team, which made him easier to relate to. The movie also gives us a look at his relationship with Lois Lane, which fans found sweet and interesting.
The cast got a lot of love too. Viewers especially enjoyed Mr. Terrific and Krypto the dog. In fact, a few people said that Krypto “stole every scene he was in.” The visual style of the movie also got praise, especially from those who watched it in IMAX. One fan wrote, “It was completely worth it. Visually stunning and beautiful.”
Some longtime DC readers were thrilled with how close the movie felt to the original comics. They described this Superman as honest, kind, and hopeful, “basically an Eagle Scout with powers,” one comic fan shared.
Loved the movie. Felt magical and little details of including Will Reeves and Justice League. Struggles between Luther & Superman are very real. Funny in parts and serious in others. Seems also relevant to present time. In that we keep going the way we are going then Luthers (billionaires) of the world getting out of control with no checks & balances which Superman brings to the film. We need one in real life. It is glimpse into Superman & Lois relationship and seems they are working on details. It’s a great movie to add to the line up of Superman.

James Gunn understood the assignment and delivered. This is a must see on the big screen. I was lucky enough to see it a few days early. The casting on all aspects was perfect in my opinion. Mr. terrific Krypto stole all their scenes.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and found it very entertaining and visually stunning and beautiful. I watched it on IMAX and it was completely worth it. There were some parts of the movie that I found “cheesy/corny”, but it felt like it changed the tone of the movie.

I have been buying and reading DC comic books since the early 80s, including Superman title comics. This latest Superman movie is very grounded on the comic book source material. It’s basically a live adaptation of the Superman comic books. Corenswet is a very wholesome Clark Kent and believable Superman. Just like the comic books, he is basically an Eagle Scout with superhuman powers. The actors that play Lex Luthor, Lois Lane and Mr. Terrific all do a great job at portraying their respective characters. If you have ever had dogs as a pet, then you will know that Krypto is very believable as a dog – one of my dogs is basically a smaller version of Krypto in behavior and personality. I really enjoyed watching this movie and so did my family and friends that joined me when we got see an advance screening of it thanks to Amazon Prime and Fandango.

I loved the fact Gunn took this monstrous task on and gave us something different than what was expected. I was smiling all movie as a 43 year old that grew up with Chris Reeve. First movie that made me feel like I got my moneys worth. Excited for this new DCU

While many loved the movie, not everyone was blown away. Some viewers said it was just okay. A few pointed out that if you’re a big fan of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, you might not like this version because it feels totally different. One person said, “It’s a complete 180.”
Others felt the movie didn’t know what tone it wanted. They said it jumped between comedy and action but didn’t quite succeed at either. Some reviews compared it to a CW show, saying the writing was all over the place. A few people said they couldn’t tell if the movie was meant for kids or adults, especially with the mix of silly jokes and more grown-up humor.
One review mentioned that the script spent too much time explaining things instead of showing them. Another said the ending copied The Lego Batman Movie, calling that a letdown. Still, even the critics had some nice things to say about the cast. Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific were both praised for their performances.
I did not love or hate this movie but I did like it. I am still processing it at the time of writing this review. It is very different than any other Superman movie or series that I have seen. If you are a Man of Steel and Zach Snyder fan you may not like this movie because it is a complete 180. All and all I believe this will be a very polarizing movie among fans.

Script screamed tell, don’t show rather than show don’t tell, half the time felt like a CW movie and the other half felt like the target audience was completely confused, is this for adults with the sex jokes or kids with the childish dialogue and acting? Also huge point deduction for literally using the climax of the superior Lego Batman Movie

Disappointed. For the most part kinda stupid, but it did have its moments. I think the only ones worse were the Christopher Reeves Superduperman 3 and 4. It seems it really could not figure out what it wanted to be, part action film part comedy. It failed on both parts, but some jokes were pretty good. Wait until Netflix or Prime or something (Max??) Edi Gathegi (Mr. Terrific) as well as Rachel Brosnahan (Lois) were pretty good. Henry Cavell and Christopher Reeves were much better as Superduperman not that David Corenswet was that bad. The writers shouldd be taken to the woodshed for this.

But overall, the people who didn’t enjoy the movie thought it was confusing and uneven. A lot of them said they’d rather wait to watch it at home. One reviewer said, “It felt like it didn’t know what it wanted to be.”
Whether you loved it or not, Superman is definitely a new chapter for the DC movies. And with a high score on Rotten Tomatoes and strong fan support, it looks like this version of the Man of Steel is off to a powerful start.
