A recent report says that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 might finally include a feature fans have wanted since the original Switch launched in 2017.

This feature wasn’t part of the first Switch, and while the report doesn’t say if the original Switch will ever get it, it looks like Nintendo plans to fix that with the new console. Unfortunately, the feature won’t arrive this year, and there’s no clear timeline on when it will come.

The news comes from Nintendo insider Nash Weedle, who has a mixed track record, sometimes reliable, sometimes not. So, it’s best to take this with caution.

According to Weedle, the Nintendo Switch 2 will allow players to customize their home screens with different themes. The report doesn’t say how many themes will be available, what they will look like, or if they will be static or animated. The information is pretty vague overall.

One clear point from the report is that these themes probably won’t be ready for this year. Weedle said, “it seems they [themes] won’t arrive this year.” That doesn’t promise they’ll come next year either, but it’s suggested.

It’s important to remember that this info comes from a translation, which can sometimes miss important details. Nintendo hasn’t commented on this rumor, and they usually don’t respond to leaks like this. If they do say something official, the story will be updated.

Another thing to consider is that if the Switch 2 does get themes, there’s a good chance they might be tied to a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Right now, the Switch has some free profile icons, but most extra ones are locked behind the subscription, so themes could work the same way.
