Tom Holland is back in the Spider-Man suit, and filming for the new Marvel movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day is officially underway. Shooting began on August 1, 2025, in Glasgow, Scotland, under the working title “Blue Oasis.” The movie is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, with Brett Pawlak returning as cinematographer.

Production had been expected to start earlier this year but was pushed back to work around Holland’s schedule. Before putting the Spidey suit back on, he was filming The Odyssey. Now, the streets of Glasgow are standing in for New York City, with filming taking place in locations like Merchant City, George Square, and Trongate.

These scenes include one of the movie’s big action sequences, and the shoot will run for about two weeks before moving to Pinewood Studios in England for soundstage work.

Holland says he’s happy to be back filming on location after the last movie had to be mostly shot indoors during the pandemic. “It feels like being back on Homecoming,” he said, thinking back to his first Spider-Man movie. Fans who’ve been hanging around the Glasgow set have even managed to meet him in full costume.

Some set photos have teased possible plot details. Vehicles marked with a red demon logo have been spotted, it’s been noted that the logo looks just like the one used by the Inner Demons gang in the comics. The group is led by the villain Mister Negative, which has led to speculation that he might appear in the film. Marvel and Sony have not confirmed this.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be Holland’s fourth solo outing as Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following 2021’s No Way Home. The movie will also star Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, and Michael Mando.

Work on a fourth Spider-Man film began back in 2019, with producer Amy Pascal saying in 2021 that it would start a brand-new trilogy of Spider-Man stories. Writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who worked on the previous movies, are back for this one as well.

The film is set to swing into theaters in the United States on July 31, 2026. The release was moved from July 24 to give The Odyssey more time on IMAX screens. Until then, fans will have to settle for the steady stream of set photos and updates from Glasgow, which have already sparked huge excitement for Spidey’s next adventure.
