New Reports Hint at What Kind of X-Men Costumes Fans Can Expect in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Marvel fans have been waiting a long time to see the X-Men fully return to the big screen. And now, it’s finally happening.

The return of the X-Men became possible after Disney bought 20th Century Fox, giving Marvel Studios the rights to use those characters again. It opened the door for stories that fans had only hoped for until now.

During a five-hour livestream that partially revealed the cast for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, several names were confirmed. Patrick Stewart will return as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and James Marsden as Cyclops. Kelsey Grammer will reprise his role as Beast, with Alan Cumming returning as Nightcrawler.

Channing Tatum will also return as Gambit, following his appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, which was released last year.

Now, during the recent AMA, Cosmic Circus’ Alex Perez revealed what fans can expect in terms of costumes. Perez said that Doomsday costumes will combine elements from two well-known versions of the team’s look. Astonishing X-Men – iconic comic book run (most famously written by Joss Whedon with art by John Cassaday) where the X-Men wore sleek, modernized leather-and-fabric uniforms, usually in dark tones, and X-Men ’97 very brightly colored, very comic-accurate designs, and instantly recognizable, with classic blues, yellows, and other vibrant superhero tones.

This is not at all surprising. Since Marvel’s X-Men ’97 turned out to be a massive hit with the audiences, it’s no wonder that it’s going to affect the future of X-Men in the MCU as well.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in the United States on December 18, 2026, as part of Phase Six of the MCU. Its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, will follow a year later on December 17, 2027.

Taking place fourteen months after the events of Thunderbolts* 2025, the story brings together the Avengers, the Wakandans, the Fantastic Four, the New Avengers, and the original X-Men in an epic showdown against Doctor Doom.
