That formula has rarely applied to Marvel’s biggest films, but even by the franchise’s own standards, the numbers coming in ahead of this particular rerelease have been turning heads across the industry.
Marvel’s decision to bring back its 2019 blockbuster with new footage tied directly into December’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has transformed what could have been a simple nostalgia play into something closer to a genuine box office event. That strategy appears to be paying off in a big way as the film heads into its broader theatrical rollout.
‘Avengers: Endgame Encore‘ is set to kick off its international rollout, with strong presales already building across multiple major markets ahead of the film’s September 25 return to theaters. India is shaping up to be one of the standout territories, while China, Latin America, Oceania, and Europe are also showing solid early momentum heading into the weekend.
In China specifically, the rerelease has already posted staggering numbers well ahead of its official premiere. According to box office tracking, presales for the September 24-27 window climbed to a $965,000 cumulative total after its second day of nationwide sales, a figure that already surpasses the two-day presale totals of recent major releases including ‘The Batman’ at $313,000 and ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ at $435,000.

The film’s momentum has been just as striking in India, where the re-release has already crossed 100,000 advance tickets, translating to a roughly Rs 5 crore opening start. Chennai has emerged as one of the standout markets during this early phase, with the first batch of available showtimes selling out quickly after going live.
That kind of nationwide urgency a full week ahead of release is unusual for a catalogue title, underscoring just how durable Marvel’s event-cinema appeal remains among Indian audiences. Given that only a portion of the film’s final screening inventory has gone live so far, the current numbers may only be a preview of what’s still to come once wider allocation opens up.
The rerelease isn’t purely a nostalgia exercise, either. Audiences catching ‘Endgame Encore’ in IMAX or Infinity Vision-certified theaters will also get an exclusive first look at footage from ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ positioning the re-release as a direct marketing tie-in ahead of December’s highly anticipated sequel.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige addressed the reasoning behind bringing the film back at San Diego Comic-Con this past July. “2019 was a very long time ago. The world’s a different place. But reminding all of us what it was like to be in that theater, cheering along and enjoying that crazy enthusiasm, is why we’re rereleasing ‘Avengers: Endgame’ on Sept. 25,” Feige said, according to China.org.cn.
What makes this rollout particularly notable is how closely it’s tracking with genuine new releases rather than typical re-issue patterns. That level of performance for a film audiences have already seen multiple times speaks to just how much anticipation remains for the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe heading into ‘Doomsday’s’ December release.
