Kristen Wiig is set to voice Roboto, the mechanical warrior, in the upcoming live-action Masters of the Universe movie. This new adaptation is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel, Entertainment Weekly confirmed.

Roboto has been voiced by actors like Justin Long, Alan Oppenheimer, and Michael Donovan in previous versions of the franchise.

The casting news was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter on Friday. The film is now in post-production. Directed by Travis Knight, known for Bumblebee, the movie is based on Mattel’s classic toys, which started as an action figure line in 1982. That line soon inspired comics, the 1983 He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series, and numerous other toys, shows, and films over the years.

Roboto first appeared in the Masters of the Universe toy line in 1985 and was featured in the mini-comic The Battle of Roboto, where Man-at-Arms builds him. The character is known for his transparent metal body, high intelligence, and a cybernetic heart that lets him feel emotions.

Wiig joins a strong cast led by Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Camila Mendes as Teela, Jared Leto as Skeletor, and Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn. Galitzine shared on Instagram in June that filming had wrapped, showing off his transformation into He-Man. “Well, that’s a wrap on Masters of the Universe. It has been an honour shouldering the responsibility of playing Adam and He-Man. It’s been the role of a lifetime and I put everything into it,” he wrote. “There’s not much I can show you, but I am so proud of the movie we’ve made. Thanks to our amazing cast and crew for all your hard work.”

The cast also includes Idris Elba as Man-at-Arms, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Malcolm/Fisto, Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress, James Purefoy as King Randor, and Charlotte Riley as Queen Marlena. Skeletor’s henchmen—Trap Jaw, Tri-Klops, and Goat Man—are played by Sam C. Wilson, Kojo Attah, and Hafthor Bjornsson. The screenplay is written by Chris Butler, with initial drafts by David Callaham and Aaron and Adam Nee.

Masters of the Universe hasn’t had a live-action film since 1987, which starred Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor. That movie is also remembered for giving Courteney Cox an early boost in her career.

The new Masters of the Universe film is scheduled to hit theaters on June 5, 2026, bringing the beloved toy and cartoon characters to a new generation of fans.
