‘A Wrinkle in Time’ Star Chlöe Bailey’s Resurrection Era Begins With a Crystal-Bare Gown, Sheer Cutouts and Serious After-Dark Glam at the VMAs
Chlöe Bailey has never been shy about treating an awards show carpet like a personal runway. Over the years the VMAs have become her favorite playground for risk-taking, and fans have come to expect a headline-grabbing outfit. Chlöe Bailey’s VMAs look this year kept that tradition alive.
Her back catalog of red carpet moments makes the expectation clear. In 2022 she arrived in a luxurious floor-length silver gown, and a year later she wore a corseted denim velveteen patchwork dress from Roberto Cavalli’s Fall-Winter 2023 Ready-To-Wear collection with a high slit. More recently, she turned heads at the Vanities celebration in a completely see-through Amiri crochet dress.

On Sunday, September 27, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, Bailey stepped onto the blue carpet in an elaborate silver crystal-embellished ensemble. It featured a sculpted bra-style bodice, geometric cutouts, and a sheer floor-length skirt covered in intricate beaded patterns. Hello Beautiful noted that mirrored details and a jeweled bra top sat beneath the open-waist design.

WWD described the gown as heavily embellished with silver beading, with every inch covered in sequins, gemstones, or some kind of beading. Most of the garment was crafted from sheer mesh, which gave the whole look a shimmering, almost armor-like quality. She paired it with champagne satin platform sandals.

Her styling kept the focus on the gown. In the photos, she wore her hair in a sleek updo with face-framing strands, letting the crystals do the talking. The soft platform sandals added height without competing with the beadwork.
Platforms were a recurring theme on the carpet. Lisa Rinna, Rei Ami, Ciara Miller, and Emma Bunton also opted for the silhouette. For Bailey, they have long been a favorite.

This wasn’t only about fashion. Bailey told E! News on the carpet that “we are in the resurrection era.” She added that it is about believing in herself, never doubting anything, and putting insecurities and outside validation to the side.
She also explained the fashion choice. She said she wanted to shine her inner light on the outside, and that she has kept her recent carpets fashion-forward while playing it safe when it comes to showing her body. At the VMAs, she said, the plan was to show a little skin.
Reaction came quickly. When TMZ shared its arrival post, it drew thousands of fan reactions. The look also earned coverage from major fashion and entertainment outlets, who included it in their VMAs roundups.
Bailey wasn’t alone in turning up the sparkle. Raye wore a silver crystal gown with sparkling fringe, while Teyana Taylor arrived in a sheer black Zuhair Murad coat-gown with feathers. Tyla went for a snakeskin panel skirt with a metallic bra top.
The timing is telling. Bailey is one half of the Grammy-nominated duo Chloe x Halle, and she has also branched into acting, including a role in ‘Strung’. A statement moment at one of music’s biggest nights fits neatly with the reinvention she is describing.
The 2026 VMAs also returned to Los Angeles for the first time since 2017, with Snoop Dogg hosting. It is a big stage for a big statement, and she clearly knew it. The bold, body-hugging gown suggests she is ready to lean into the spotlight rather than dodge it.
