Adria Arjona Just Dropped a Major Update on Her Mysterious ‘Man of Tomorrow’ Role
Fans have been buzzing over Adria Arjona’s involvement in James Gunn’s DC Universe ever since her casting first made headlines, and the mystery surrounding her character has only deepened with time. The ‘Andor’ star has kept details close to the chest, letting speculation run wild across social media about which iconic DC figure she might be bringing to life.
Arjona recently sat down with Collider while promoting her new film ‘Onslaught’ at San Diego Comic-Con, and the conversation quickly turned to her upcoming role in ‘Man of Tomorrow.’ Despite having previously worked with Peter Safran and James Gunn on 2016’s ‘The Belko Experiment,’ Arjona revealed that she still had to prove herself before landing a part in the new DC movie. She confirmed she hasn’t actually started shooting ‘Man of Tomorrow’ yet, though she already feels far more confident than she did earlier in her career.
“In the process of auditioning, they put me through it even as a family member and made me earn it,” she explained. She added that being part of Gunn’s creative circle again has given her a new kind of assurance on set, saying she now feels comfortable enough to ask questions and speak up in ways she wouldn’t have dared earlier in her career. “But I think when you decide to join a universe or join a family, the people are the most important, and I love them to pieces,” she continued, adding that Gunn and Safran gave her both her first big break and this new opportunity.
The bigger question fans really want answered is who exactly Arjona is playing. Reports initially claimed she landed the role of DC Comics antihero Maxima, though Gunn has never confirmed or denied that detail. The Hollywood Reporter previously stated that Arjona was chosen for a mystery role after several rounds of screen tests, adding that it remains unclear whether the Maxima reports are even accurate.
That ambiguity has only fueled more theories, with some fans convinced Arjona could actually be playing Wonder Woman rather than Maxima. Others have pointed to a very different possibility, floating the idea that she could be portraying Lysl Dox, the wife of Brainiac, rather than either previously rumored character. Adding to the intrigue, James Gunn has publicly stated that every major role for ‘Man of Tomorrow’ had already been cast by early April, which has led some to speculate Arjona’s part might be smaller than fans initially assumed.
With David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, and Rachel Brosnahan all returning alongside a growing ensemble that includes Justice Gang members and Supergirl, ‘Man of Tomorrow’ is shaping up to be one of the most stacked DC films yet. The film is currently set to open on July 9, 2027, giving fans plenty of time to keep guessing about Arjona’s true role before production even wraps.
Whether Arjona ends up as Maxima, Wonder Woman, or someone else entirely, the wait for confirmation is clearly part of Gunn’s plan to keep audiences hooked. Do you think this mystery role is a full blown superhero debut, or just a clever cameo in disguise?
