Tom Brittney Finally Addresses Batman Casting Rumors After Losing Superman Role to David Corenswet

Tom Brittney is once again being linked to a major DC role, but the actor says fans should not believe everything they hear. After missing out on playing Superman to David Corenswet, Brittney has now addressed the rumors that he could become the next Batman in James Gunn’s DC Universe.

The DCU is preparing to introduce a new version of Batman in the upcoming movie The Brave and the Bold. While Robert Pattinson will continue playing Batman in Matt Reeves’ separate Elseworlds universe, Gunn’s DC Universe will feature a different Bruce Wayne who exists alongside heroes like Superman and the rest of the Justice League.

Although Batman has already appeared through small references and appearances in DC projects like Creature Commandos, the new live-action version has not yet been revealed. Because of that, fans have been guessing who could take over the iconic role.

One name that has been mentioned frequently is Tom Brittney. The actor was reportedly one of the final choices to play Superman before David Corenswet was selected for the role. Recently, rumors suggested that Brittney could instead be in the running to become the DCU’s Batman.

During an appearance on Fox5, Brittney was asked directly about the Batman reports. According to DC Film News, the actor laughed off the rumors and said he had no information about the role.

“I know nothing about this, [it is] a crazy rumor! [laughs] No comment. I know nothing. Just lovely wonderful rumors,” Brittney said.

While DC Studios has not confirmed anything about Brittney’s possible involvement, James Gunn has made it clear that he is a fan of the actor’s work. Gunn previously praised Brittney after fans connected him with DC projects.

In November 2024, Gunn said on Threads that “Tom is truly one of my favorite actors. Incredibly talented guy.” The comment came while discussing the Superman casting process and the fact that both Brittney and Corenswet had tested for the role.

Gunn later talked about Brittney again during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast in July 2025. The filmmaker revealed that Brittney had tested for him multiple times and said he would like to work with him in the future.

“He’s one of my favorite actors in the world. And I normally don’t say when an actor tests, because that’s up to the actor to say if they want to test. But I’m gonna say in this case that Tom Brittney tested and he’s an amazing actor and I hope to use him someday,” Gunn explained.

The Batman rumors grew stronger after YouTuber John Campea claimed on The John Campea Show that he had heard information about who DC Studios may be considering for the role. Campea said he believed the studio had already chosen someone, but he did not reveal the name.

“I think I know who the DCU Batman is, I think they’ve cast him,” Campea said, while adding that the name was not someone he expected.

However, there is still no official casting news for The Brave and the Bold. The movie is still being developed, with Andy Muschietti attached to direct, and the script is not finished yet.

For now, Tom Brittney remains only a fan-favorite choice among many possible Batman actors. Until DC Studios makes an official announcement, the rumors surrounding the next Dark Knight should be taken carefully.
