‘Agatha All Along’s’ Nicholas Scratch Could Be the Way to Bring Dormammu Back to the MCU
‘Agatha All Along’ recently premiered with the first two episodes, exploring a magical side of the MCU that’s long been neglected; despite some of the most powerful magic users being massive characters in the franchise.
Now the show lays some solid groundwork for future MCU projects. Believe it or not, it may be connected to one villain that’s already been defeated – Dormammu.
A couple of weeks back we covered a rumor that stated that Dormammu will return to the MCU. At the time we assumed that he would return through Clea, a character introduced in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’ With the release of ‘Agatha All Along,’ one more character connected to Dormmamu has been sort of introduced, Nicholas Scratch.
Nicholas wasn’t shown in the show per se, but his name can be seen in what appears it be an old kids’ room. Although we do have our suspicions that it’s Agatha’s pet rabbit, Senor Scratchy all along.
It’s likely that the show will adapt Nicholas Scratch pretty close to his comic book origins. He was Agatha’s son, but the two always had a tense relationship.
They were both part of New Salem, a secretive town of witches and warlocks hidden from the world. Agatha was the town’s original leader. Nicholas’s name combines elements from English folklore, specifically “Old Nick” and “Mr. Scratch,” which are alternative names for the Devil.
Scratch betrayed his mother after she left New Salem to live a normal life. Nicholas led a group that abducted Agatha and nearly executed her. Although Agatha was rescued and New Salem turned against Nicholas, he was eventually exiled to the Dark Realm.
There, he became a servant of Dormammu, aiming to become the Sorcerer Supreme.
After the destruction of New Salem, Scratch reappeared in the so-called Centerville as “Mayor Nicholas,” where the town had become an amusement park version of “America’s Heartland Next-Door.”
When Patsy Walker – better known as Hellcat, returned to her hometown, she found the population possessed by demons. A team of Avengers and Thunderbolts helped free the town from a conspiracy involving the park developers, Sons of the Serpent, and Salem’s Seven.
Patsy stayed behind and discovered Scratch was behind the hauntings, serving Dormammu, who aimed to conquer Hell and make Scratch Sorcerer Supreme. However, their plans were thwarted by other Hell-Lords and the two escaped.
As you can see we have all the ingredients to cook this up in the MCU. Dormammu was already introduced, the Avengers are somewhat present, Agatha as well, and Thunderbolts are about to be introduced next year with ‘Thunderbolts*.’
It’s likely that the story won’t be adapted 1:1, but incorporating both Scratch and Dormammu in the upcoming ‘Doctor Strange’ project certainly sounds interesting. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
