Alan Ritchson has spent the past few years quietly building one of the busiest resumes in Hollywood, moving from the hulking vigilante of ‘Reacher’ into a string of action-heavy film roles that all seem to share a common thread. Between military dramas, revenge thrillers, and alien invasion spectacles, the actor has carved out a very specific lane for himself, one built around old-school physicality and grit.

That lane has only grown since Ritchson expanded his partnership with Amazon MGM Studios earlier this year, signing a three-year first-look television deal through his production company. Under that agreement, Ritchson develops and produces new series projects for Prime Video, continuing a relationship that has already produced several of his biggest recent hits.

Now, speaking with Variety at Comic-Con, Ritchson made clear exactly what kind of stories he wants that partnership to prioritize going forward. The actor said he is interested in developing more military-driven, muscular content specifically aimed at young male audiences, a comment that lines up closely with the throughline running through nearly every project he has taken on in the past year.

That interest tracks with everything Ritchson has said publicly about the state of modern action filmmaking. He has been vocal about believing audiences are growing tired of what he has called the Marvelization of tentpole movies, arguing that characters who feel invincible have reduced the stakes in a lot of modern blockbusters to something he considers unwatchable.

Alan Ritchson Fans Want to Know When ‘Motor City’ Hits Streaming

Ritchson’s recent slate reflects that philosophy in practice. He currently stars in ‘War Machine,’ an alien invasion thriller built around military brotherhood, and ‘Motor City,’ a nearly dialogue free revenge film set in 1970s Detroit where he plays a former Army Ranger. He is also preparing to return for a fourth season of ‘Reacher,’ which he has described as the show’s best yet, along with an upcoming role in ‘Runner’ opposite Owen Wilson as a former soldier targeted by a cartel.

Beyond acting, Ritchson has become increasingly hands-on as a producer through his banner Dancing Skeleton, which focuses on high impact, audience driven storytelling. That focus appears to be exactly what is fueling his push for more military inspired content under the Amazon deal, giving him a direct hand in shaping the kind of stories that reach Prime Video’s audience going forward.

What do you think of Alan Ritchson’s push for more military-driven, muscular action stories?

The original three-year first-look deal, signed earlier this year, followed the success of ‘Reacher’ and its upcoming spinoff ‘Neagley.’ Ritchson has said the partnership felt like a natural next step for continuing to bring what he called top-tier episodic content to the platform, noting at the time that ‘Reacher’ was just the beginning of that relationship.

Ritchson’s own background may help explain why this particular lane resonates with him. Raised as the son of a U.S. Air Force chief master sergeant, he has spent much of his career gravitating toward roles built around soldiers, veterans, and men shaped by physical hardship, even though he has not served in the military himself.

With so many projects already in motion and more reportedly on the way, Ritchson’s vision for the kind of content Amazon should be producing appears to be gaining real traction behind the scenes. Whether that translates into new original series remains to be seen, but his comments at Comic-Con suggest he has no plans to slow down anytime soon.
