The film originally hit theaters through Universal Pictures on April 10, 2026, and while it did not exactly light up the box office, it grossed over $20 million against an $18 million budget. The movie also earned a strong 93 percent approval rating on the Rotten Tomatoes Popcornmeter from more than 1000 verified audience ratings, which helps explain why it is now climbing streaming charts rather than fading away.
The film follows Bailey as Anna, a free-spirited young cook who impulsively squats in an abandoned villa in Tuscany, and the story kicks off when impersonating a man’s fiancée while crashing at his home in Italy becomes complicated once Anna falls for his cousin instead. Directed by Kat Coiro, known for helming Jennifer Lopez’s ‘Marry Me,’ the movie is currently streaming on Peacock after its theatrical run this past spring. Critics were split but largely charmed, with Tom’s Guide calling it a “familiar, visually delightful rom-com with sweet chemistry and sun-drenched Italian scenery” in its official review.
Further down the list, ‘Clueless’ has quietly re-entered Peacock’s top 10, a notable bit of movement for a film that turns 31 years old this year. Alicia Silverstone’s Cher Horowitz first captivated audiences with her signature style, sharp wit, and relentless optimism decades ago, helping the movie become both a box office hit and a lasting pop-culture touchstone. Its staying power has proven remarkable, especially given the film’s recent behind-the-scenes drama.
That drama centers on a long-gestating television revival. A ‘Clueless’ sequel series with Silverstone attached was announced as being in development in April 2025, but Deadline confirmed it was no longer moving forward at Peacock as of April 2026. The show eventually landed elsewhere entirely, with Paramount Plus greenlighting a six-episode order and production expected to begin in Los Angeles in 2027. Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, and Jordan Weis are writing and executive producing, alongside original writer director Amy Heckerling and producer Robert Lawrence.
Given that timing, seeing ‘Clueless’ pop back onto Peacock’s most watched list feels almost poetic, a reminder that Cher Horowitz never really needed a new show to stay relevant. The original film remains the comfort watch fans return to no matter where the sequel eventually lands.
