Andy Cohen Slams “Idiot” Critics Over Bad Bunny Super Bowl 60 Halftime Controversy
The NFL confirmed back in September that Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny will headline the Super Bowl 60 halftime show in Santa Clara.
Known for his global hits and performances in Spanish, Bad Bunny is consistently one of the most streamed artists in the world, alongside stars like Taylor Swift and Morgan Wallen. The league partnered with Apple Music and Jay-Z’s Roc Nation to organize the show.
Despite his popularity, the announcement has sparked controversy. A petition on Change.org calling for Bad Bunny to be replaced has already gathered over 100,000 signatures. Critics argue that his style does not fit the traditional Super Bowl halftime audience.
In response, Bad Bunny shared a statement emphasizing the personal and cultural significance of the performance. “What I’m feeling goes beyond myself. It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown… this is for my people, my culture, and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL,” he said.
The NFL has stood firm in its decision. Jon Baker, the league’s senior vice president of Global Event Production, praised Bad Bunny for his influence and energy. “Bad Bunny represents the global energy and cultural vibrancy that define today’s music scene. As one of the most influential and streamed artists in the world, his unique ability to bridge genres, languages, and audiences makes him an exciting and natural choice to take the Super Bowl halftime stage,” Baker said.
“We know his dynamic performances, creative vision, and deep connection with fans will deliver the kind of unforgettable experience we’ve come to expect from this iconic cultural moment.”
Bravo star and “Watch What Happens Live” host Andy Cohen also weighed in during an appearance on Alex Cooper’s podcast “Call Her Daddy.” He didn’t hold back in defending the rapper. “Yes. YES. He’s an American, you **** idiots,” Cohen said. “God. Puerto Rico is in America! Swimming in a sea of ***** idiots.”
Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl appearance marks one of the most talked-about halftime show announcements in recent years.
While some fans express excitement over the international flair he brings, others have been vocal about their opposition. The NFL has made it clear that the show will go on as planned, setting the stage for what promises to be a culturally significant performance.
