‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ Nominated 4 Times at the Razzie Awards

‘Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania’ Review

2023 was definitely a year of unflattering records for Marvel Studios and MCU. Nearly all projects besides ‘Loki Season 2 and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ flopped, with ‘The Marvels’ being the lowest-grossing MCU movie ever and the first MCU movie not to break the $100 million threshold at the domestic box office. But things started badly for the franchise back in February when ‘Quantumania’ was released. The movie received shockingly bad reviews and was the first large-scale flop that marked the beginning of the end for the current direction that the MCU is going in.

It’s up to Razzies to bring the bad movies back to the spotlight again, and ‘Quantumania’ found itself nominated in 4 times in total, shattering yet another unflattering record as the first Marvel Studios movie to be nominated for the “award.”

Michael Douglas & Bill Murray have been nominated for the worst supporting actor, the movie as a whole was nominated in the worst in the “worst sequel/prequel/spinoff” category. Peyton Reed was nominated as the worst director. Well, it’s bound to win at least some of those…

But, ‘Quantumania’ is not the only superhero movie to be nominated as ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ was nominated as well, with Lucy Liu and Hellen Mirren nominated for worst actress and worst supporting actress, respectively, and the movie itself was nominated for the worst picture and worst screenplay. ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ has the same number of nominations as ‘Ant-Man & The Wasp.’

However, taking into account that ‘Expend4bles’ has 7 nominations, the superhero flicks are bound to lose at least some of them. Whether it’s up to superhero fatigue or something else in general, or people becoming annoyed at lectures while they are watching the movie remains to be seen, but the fact is, 2023 was a terrible year for the superhero genre with only ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ and surprisingly ‘Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom’ being met with some moderation of success, and I use that term for ‘Aquaman’ loosely despite being somewhat successful at the box-office.
