Anya Taylor-Joy and Drew Starkey Team Up in Explosive New Trailer for Apple TV’s ‘Lucky’
Anya Taylor-Joy is heading back to television with a dark new thriller, and the first teaser for Lucky suggests she will be fighting more than just dangerous criminals. The upcoming Apple TV+ series puts the actress at the center of a story filled with missing money, family secrets, betrayal, and a past that refuses to stay buried.
According to the newly released teaser trailer, Taylor-Joy plays Lucky, a woman who thought she had escaped her troubled upbringing. Instead, she finds herself dragged back into the dangerous world she worked so hard to leave behind.
The series introduces Lucky as the daughter of John Armstrong, played by Timothy Olyphant. Unlike most parents, John did not raise his daughter to follow a normal path. Instead, he prepared her for a life surrounded by crime. Although Lucky eventually walked away from that world, her attempt at a fresh start does not last long.
The trailer reveals that Lucky and her husband Cary, played by Drew Starkey, become involved in a risky scheme involving stolen mob money. The money reportedly belongs to Cary’s mother, Priscilla Matheson, portrayed by Annette Bening. Unfortunately for Lucky, Priscilla is not just any mother-in-law. She is a powerful and feared mob leader.
Things quickly spiral out of control when Cary suddenly disappears. The stolen money vanishes as well, leaving Lucky trapped in the middle of a dangerous situation with no clear answers.
As shown in the trailer, Priscilla believes Lucky knows more than she is admitting. When confronted about both the missing money and her missing husband, Lucky insists she has no idea where either one is. Priscilla is not convinced.
“That’s the wrong answer,” Priscilla tells her. The line makes it clear that Lucky is about to face serious consequences whether she is telling the truth or not.
However, the missing money is only part of the problem. The teaser also hints that someone from Lucky’s past has returned. Old enemies and unfinished business appear ready to threaten everything she has built. This mysterious danger seems connected to the criminal life she thought she had left behind years ago.
As pressure builds from all sides, Lucky realizes there may be only one way out. The trailer suggests she must take on one final dangerous mission in hopes of ending this chapter of her life for good. Whether she succeeds remains the biggest mystery heading into the series.
The show is based on the bestselling novel Lucky by Marissa Stapley. It was created by Jonathan Tropper, who also serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Cassie Pappas. Taylor-Joy is also among the executive producers.
Alongside Taylor-Joy, Starkey, Olyphant, and Bening, the cast includes Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Clifton Collins Jr., Mo McRae, William Fichtner, Eric Lange, and Joey Graziadei.
The teaser points toward a fast-paced thriller packed with crime, family conflict, and survival. At the center of it all is Lucky, a woman trying to outrun her past while everyone around her seems determined to drag her back into it.
Lucky premieres on Apple TV+ on July 15. The first two episodes will be available at launch, with new episodes arriving weekly through August 19.
