Anya Taylor-Joy Steals the Spotlight at the ‘Lucky’ World Premiere
Anya Taylor-Joy has spent the better part of this summer proving that a press tour can double as a full-blown fashion moment. From lace slip dresses to pleated pastel gowns, her run of appearances has turned heads long before her new project even hits screens.
That project is ‘Lucky,’ the Apple TV limited series that has been building buzz for months thanks to its starry cast and twisty premise. The show follows a con artist who finds herself hunted by both the FBI and a dangerous crime boss after a multimillion-dollar heist collapses.
On Monday night, all that momentum finally reached its destination. Taylor-Joy walked the red carpet for the official world premiere of ‘Lucky’ at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles, dressed in a gown from Dior, the house she has represented as an ambassador for years.
She was not alone on the carpet. Executive producer Reese Witherspoon, whose company Hello Sunshine helped shepherd the series to the screen, joined her for photos ahead of the screening.
The rest of the ensemble cast turned out in force as well. Drew Starkey, Annette Bening, Clifton Collins Jr, Mo McRae, William Fichtner, and Eric Lange all made appearances, alongside Taylor-Joy’s husband Malcolm McRae, who has become a familiar face at her premieres.
Starkey, who plays opposite Taylor-Joy in the series, also chose Dior for the evening, giving the pair a coordinated moment on the carpet that fans were quick to notice in the flood of premiere photos.
‘Lucky’ is based on Marissa Stapley’s 2021 novel of the same name, and it has been positioned as one of Apple TV’s bigger swings for the back half of the summer. The story leans into glamour and danger in equal measure, which tracks with the high-stakes energy the cast brought to the red carpet itself.
Bening, an Oscar nominated veteran, and Fichtner, a familiar face from prestige dramas, round out a supporting lineup that gives the series a weightier pedigree than the average summer thriller. Collins Jr and McRae add further depth to a cast clearly built to carry a story with this much plot to untangle.
For Taylor-Joy, the premiere caps off a whirlwind stretch of promotion that has taken her from London photocalls to morning show appearances and now to a proper Hollywood red carpet. Her willingness to experiment across that run, mixing lingerie-inspired slips with pleated FFORME pieces before landing on Dior for the big night, has kept fashion outlets watching her every move.
The series itself is set to debut with its first two episodes on Wednesday, arriving on Apple TV before rolling out new installments weekly through mid August. That staggered release should give the con artist thriller room to build word of mouth the same way its cast built buzz on the carpet.
