The third installment in the Avatar series continues the story of Jake Sully and Neytiri, following their family’s life with the Metkayina clan a year after the tragic death of their son, Neteyam. The new film introduces a fierce Na’vi tribe called the Mangkwan clan, or the Ash people, led by Varang, who has joined forces with Jake’s longtime enemy, Quaritch. The conflict promises to escalate with serious consequences for Pandora.
Avatar: Fire and Ash brings back the cast from previous films, including Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, and many others, according to Lightstorm Entertainment. Cameron co-wrote the screenplay with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, based on a story developed alongside Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno.
Cameron has long planned sequels to Avatar, announcing the first two in 2010 after the success of the original 2009 film.
The production faced delays due to the ambitious technology required for underwater performance capture scenes—a filmmaking feat never done before. Shooting for Avatar: Fire and Ash began in New Zealand on September 25, 2017, alongside Avatar: The Way of Water, and concluded in December 2020 after more than three years of filming.
With Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 already in production, Cameron’s epic saga shows no signs of slowing down. Fans can watch the teaser now and mark their calendars for December 19, when the latest chapter of Pandora’s story unfolds.
