‘Avengers 5’ Scheduled To Start Filming in Late 2024 in the UK
Marvel Studios has quite a lot of movies to be released in the next few years; most of the projects were, however, delayed or switched dates with other projects due to the SAG-AFTRA strike and due to some controversies and other issues that needed to be addressed. The movies that fans are most hyped about are certainly continuations of the ‘Avengers’ franchise, and oh boy, we’ve been through a lot regarding that in the last few months.
On June 13, 2023, it was announced that a film originally set for release on an unspecified date had been postponed to May 1, 2026. Subsequently, on November 15, 2023, Deadline reported that Destin Daniel Cretton, the initially appointed director, had chosen to step down from the project, deciding to focus on directing ‘Shang-Chi 2’ instead. In addition, on November 27, 2023, it was reported that Michael Waldron had taken over the role of the scriptwriter, replacing Jeff Loveness.
A significant development occurred on December 18, 2023, when it was reported that Jonathan Majors had been terminated by Walt Disney Studios and removed from the film. This decision was made in the wake of an assault and harassment verdict earlier that day. Simultaneously, it was revealed that Marvel Studios had shifted the internal reference for the film from ‘The Kang Dynasty’ to ‘Avengers 5.’ This shift in nomenclature hinted at a potential change in the direction or focus of the film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Now according to Production Weekly, the filming of ‘Avengers 5’ is set to begin in late 2024 in the UK. The movie was originally supposed to begin filming in the spring of 2024, but due to the obvious problems with the cast, script, writing, and the main villain, it was apparently delayed.
Despite the filming being delayed, it still gives a bit of a vibe that it’s being “rushed” and this can most likely be attributed by the nature of the MCU as well. Delay one important project, and you need to delay all others; either that or you need to pay for the extensive reshoots so the story makes sense in the connected universe. In any case, little is known about the current state of ‘Avengers 5’ with rumors pointing in the direction of Kang’s role being minimized but also in the direction that the character will be recast completely, with Kang continuing to be the main villain of the ‘Multiverse Saga.’ I guess we will have to wait for the official confirmations to shed some light.
