Rumor: ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ & ‘Secret Wars’ Writers Have Been Reportedly Laid Off

Kang Dynasty Secret Wars 1

As we already know, all movie and television productions are currently on hold due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in Hollywood. There’s no telling how long those strikes will last, but it’s safe to say that many movies will face delays in productions and, therefore, in release dates as well. That situation is pretty complicated when it comes to the MCU schedule since we know that the majority of those projects are entangled together, meaning that only one delay can create a domino effect.

Still, Marvel Studios announced many projects for us to look forward to, particularly at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, where the boss Kevin Feige officially announced ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ the fifth and sixth ‘Avengers’ movies, which will serve as the culmination of the Multiverse saga the same way ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’ culminated the Infinity Saga.

However, there are many more projects to go through before that next crossover event, and we also know that these movies won’t be made back-to-back like ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame,’ although they’re still set to be released only one year apart.

A new rumor indicates that previously hired writers for ‘The Kang Dynasty’ and ‘Secret Wars’ are off.

These upcoming ‘Avengers’ movies are still in early development, and not much is known about them officially. One known thing is that Destin Daniel Cretton is set to direct ‘The Kang Dynasty,’ while it’s still unknown who will direct ‘Secret Wars.’ We know that the same team won’t make these movies of writers and directors, and it looks like Marvel Studios is now looking for new writers.

It was previously announced that Jeff Loveness was attached to write ‘The Kang Dynasty,’ while Michael Waldron was hired to write ‘Secret Wars.’ However, at least according to MyTimeToShineHello, both of these writers are now off the projects, and Marvel Studios will need to wait for the strikes to end to find new writers.

Marvel Studios Reshuffles Release Schedule; ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ Pushed Back to 2027!

As this rumor has spread across social media, some MCU fans declared that they would like Phil Lord and Chris Miller to write these movies since they proved with the ‘Spider-Verse’ franchise that they know how to handle big Multiverse events, along with great character development and well-delivered humor. But this is still just a rumor, so take it with a grain of salt.

The MCU is known for rehiring directors and writers who worked on some previous MCU projects. Jeff Loveness previously wrote ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,’ which was released earlier this year to a mixed critical response and failed to break even at the box office. Michael Waldron previously worked as the creator of the first season of the ‘Loki’ series, and he also wrote 2022’s ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’

Destin Daniel Cretton, who is still set to direct ‘The Kang Dynasty,’ previously directed ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,’ and he’s also attached to direct its sequel.

‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ is currently set to be released on May 1, 2026, while ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ is set to be released on May 7, 2027.

What are your thoughts on this topic? Do you think Loveness and Waldron are competent writers for the upcoming ‘Avengers’ movies, or would you also like to see Phil Lord and Chris Miller working on those movies?
