‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Advance Tickets Just Sold Out, and Fans Say They Were Harder to Snag Than ‘The Odyssey’ or ‘Dune 3’

Marvel fans have spent the past week riding one wave of momentum after another, from record-breaking trailer numbers to presale comparisons that have the entire industry talking. Now the conversation has shifted to something even more tangible, actual seats in actual theaters.

The buzz around ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has felt different from previous Marvel rollouts almost from the start, driven by an unusually aggressive early ticketing push from Disney. That strategy appears to be paying off in a very visible way this week.

Advance screening and opening weekend tickets for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ have reportedly sold out completely, with fans online claiming they were tougher to secure than tickets for ‘The Odyssey,’ ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ and ‘Dune: Part Three’ combined. That is a notable claim given how much attention each of those releases has already generated on its own.

The sellout centers on Infinity Vision, the premium large format screen designation Disney created specifically for ‘Doomsday.’ Tickets for these select showtimes went on sale at 11 AM ET through Fandango and participating theater chains, covering the film’s earliest preview screenings from December 17 through December 30.

That kind of early access is not typical, even for a franchise as massive as the Avengers. Disney opened premium ticket sales five months ahead of the film’s release, a timeline that mirrors the approach Universal took with ‘The Odyssey,’ which put select IMAX tickets on sale roughly a year in advance.

The Infinity Vision format itself exists because of a scheduling collision nobody saw coming. Warner Bros locked down roughly 400 IMAX screens across North America for three weeks around ‘Dune: Part Three,’ which shares the same December 18 release date as ‘Doomsday,’ effectively boxing Disney out of the premium format that usually drives a huge share of opening weekend revenue.

Rather than concede that ground, Marvel built its own large-format brand from scratch to compete. The move has clearly resonated with fans, many of whom are treating the early ticket window as a must-buy moment rather than something to wait on.

Demand data backs up that enthusiasm. Reports indicate the film’s trailer pulled 2.8 million views and nearly 987,000 likes within its first two hours, a surge that lined up directly with the ticket rollout and likely fueled some of the early buying frenzy.

There is an important wrinkle to the sellout story, though. Industry trackers note that the gaps currently missing from Doomsday’s premium showtime grid are being held in reserve for ‘Dune: Part Three’ screenings, meaning the initial batch of Infinity Vision inventory was never meant to represent full premium coverage in the first place.

Are you planning to see Avengers: Doomsday in theaters?

That context does not diminish the demand itself, but it does explain part of why sellouts happened so quickly. Theaters can and likely will add more ‘Doomsday’ showtimes as real demand data comes in over the coming months, giving fans additional chances to grab seats closer to release.

Disney has also sweetened the deal for early buyers, offering a world premiere sweepstakes for anyone purchasing tickets through Fandango before November 9. That kind of incentive, paired with genuine fan excitement following the trailer drop, has helped turn a five-month early ticket window into a genuine cultural moment.

With standard format tickets still unannounced and general sales expected closer to the film’s release, this early Infinity Vision sellout is really just the opening chapter of what promises to be a lengthy buildup toward December. Whether that momentum holds through the holiday showdown with ‘Dune: Part Three’ remains one of the biggest storylines left in this year’s box office race.
